Job Description Summary

About the Role

Join a team developing state-of-the-art medium-voltage variable speed drive (VSD) systems for mission-critical industrial applications. In this role, you will lead the design and development of advanced power conversion and motor control solutions used in applications such as marine propulsion, rolling mills, compressors, and other high-performance industrial systems.

You will work across the full engineering lifecycle, from system architecture and power electronics design to advanced control algorithm development, real-time simulation, and product validation. This position offers the opportunity to solve complex technical challenges while collaborating with a global team of experts in power electronics, controls, and electrification.#LI-ML2

Job Description

Main Responsibilities

  • Design and optimize medium-voltage power conversion systems, including transformers, active front ends (AFE), diode front ends (DFE), motor bridges, and harmonic mitigation filters.

  • Develop and enhance advanced motor control algorithms, including vector control and Field-Oriented Control (FOC), for IGBT and thyristor-based power converters.

  • Define, implement, and validate integrated control strategies that balance customer process requirements, system performance, reliability, and operational constraints.

  • Create and maintain offline simulation models and real-time digital twins supporting development, system validation, and Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) testing.

  • Develop and adapt real-time electrotechnical models using RT-LAB and other simulation platforms to accelerate product development and verification.

  • Lead system integration and performance validation activities on real-time platforms and physical test systems.

  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams across power electronics, software, systems engineering, and product management to deliver innovative customer solutions.

  • Provide technical leadership and support during commissioning, troubleshooting, and customer deployment activities worldwide.

  • Travel periodically to industrial facilities including marine vessels, offshore platforms, LNG and liquefaction plants, power generation facilities, mining operations, and heavy industrial sites to resolve complex technical issues and ensure successful project execution.

Required Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Electronics, Electrical Drives, or a related field.

  • Several years of experience in variable speed drives, power conversion, motor control, or industrial automation systems.

  • Strong understanding of medium-voltage power electronics, including rectifiers, inverters, active front ends, and motor drive systems.

  • Deep knowledge of electric machines, transformers, and three-phase power systems.

  • Hands-on experience developing motor control algorithms, including Field-Oriented Control (FOC) and vector control techniques.

  • Strong understanding of modulation strategies such as SVM, PWM, GDPWM, and related switching techniques.

  • Experience developing simulation models for power electronic systems and electric drive applications.

  • Ability to analyze complex system interactions involving converters, transformers, electrical machines, and utility networks.

Desired Characteristics

  • Experience with Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) testing and real-time simulation platforms such as RT-LAB.

  • Experience with medium-voltage drives in marine, metals, mining, oil & gas, or energy applications.

  • Knowledge of grid interconnection requirements, harmonic studies, and power quality analysis.

  • Experience commissioning industrial drive systems in customer environments.

  • Familiarity with model-based design and digital twin methodologies.

Why Join Us?

  • Work on industry-leading medium-voltage drive technology powering critical infrastructure and industrial operations worldwide.

  • Solve complex technical challenges spanning power electronics, control systems, and electrification.

  • Influence product architecture and technology roadmaps.

  • Collaborate with experienced specialists in a highly technical and innovative environment.

  • See your designs deployed in real-world applications that directly impact customers' performance, efficiency, and sustainability goals.

  • Gain firsthand experience with real-world operation of advanced drive systems in some of the world's most demanding environments.
