Volunteer Description:

Unpaid volunteer contributing time to Intermountain Healthcare in various roles.

The Expressive Therapies Department at Primary Children’s Hospital is looking for musicians to help in Sophie’s Place! Sophie Barton was a music volunteer at Primary Children’s Hospital. In 2010, she sadly passed away due to an undiagnosed heart condition. Due to her love for music and the role her family saw music play within Primary Children’s Hospital, her family partnered with the Forever Young Foundation to create “Sophie’s Place.” Sophie’s Place is a room in the hospital designed specifically for music-making. Patients and families can come to this space to explore new instruments, play music, listen to music, or simply escape from the stressors of the hospital. As a volunteer, you would help our team by running our open hours. “Open hours” is a two-hour time slot where Sophie’s Place is open to patients and families to play music. Additionally, you may be asked to clean the space and help with instrument maintenance.

Requirements for Sophie’s Place volunteers:

  • 18 years of age or older

  • Musician that is proficient on at least one instrument (voice counts as an instrument).

  • Be familiar with or willing to learn how to use simple music technology.

  • Be familiar with or willing to learn basics of various instruments within the space.

Perks of the volunteer role:

  • Access to awesome instruments!

  • Closer interactions with patients and families

  • Flexible schedules/shifts

  • Opportunities for event planning and facilitating (karaoke parties, dance parties, etc.)

We have so many shifts available!

  • Mondays 10 am-12pm, 2-4 pm, 5-7 pm

  • Tuesdays 2-4 pm, 5-7 pm
