SUMMARY
New York Edge is seeking an energetic, enthusiastic, and caring person to fill the role of Yoga Specialist. In this part-time position you will be in charge of leading students in our after school programs through age appropriate yoga exercises. As the yoga specialist, you will build positive relationships with participants in our care and foster mutual support between participants, a desire to learn, and the positive development of each child as well as the overall group
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Develop weekly age appropriate lesson plans involving yoga related games and wellness education.

Deliver fun, motivational, empowering, and educational yoga classes to ensure students are engaged in their yoga experience and remain motivated.

Support students in developing personal goals.

Foster empathy, communication, and community building through the teaching of yoga practices, poses and breathing exercises.

Teach students mindfulness, self-awareness, and discipline through fun activities.

Communicate with the Program Director in a timely fashion regarding any materials needed.

Explain principles, techniques, and safety procedures to participants in the activities, and demonstrate proper use of materials and equipment.

Maintain accurate attendance records and anecdotal logs.

Follow all procedures and guidelines including those pertaining to health and safety.

Keep the immediate supervisor informed daily of any concerns regarding participants, staff or the facility.

Actively participate in training sessions, designated meetings and special events.

Perform other related duties as assigned.
REQUIRED SKILLS
-
Must be knowledgeable and skilled in yoga instruction
-
Prior experience teaching and instructing youth preferred
-
Certifications and credentials in respective skill-based activity highly preferred

Must be able to follow a curriculum
-
Must be responsible, reliable, and punctual!

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are required.
-
May be required to walk up and down stairs.
-
May have to lift or move objects/materials as needed.
-
Work is performed mostly within a New York City Public School but may be required to interact with the community at-large during trips or events.
QUALIFICATIONS
-
High School Diploma or Equivalent required; some college preferred
-
A minimum of one year of work-related skill, knowledge, or experience is required.
-
A minimum of one year of teaching experience is required.
-
Must have passion for New York Edge's mission and demonstrated interest in education and youth development.

Candidates qualified to lead instruction in more than one activity are also preferred.
WORK SCHEDULE
-
9-15 hours per week.
-
Monday through Friday -- 2:30 pm - 5:30 pm
The Yoga Specialist will be required to report to the school building and interact with staff, students, parents, and school administration.
At the time of offer and acceptance, the job requires safety and security clearances through the Department of Education and Department of Health.
