Job Description

An employer is looking for a Senior Industrial Edge Engineer in Liberty, NC. You will lead the design, deployment, and optimization of edge computing and Industrial IoT solutions within a highly automated manufacturing environment. This role will bridge operational technology (OT) and information technology (IT) systems by integrating PLCs, robotics, vision systems, SCADA, MES, and cloud platforms to enable real-time data visibility, predictive maintenance, and continuous process improvement.

The ideal candidate will have strong experience in industrial automation, edge computing, manufacturing data architecture, and software development, with a passion for leveraging technology to improve production performance, quality, and reliability. This individual will work cross-functionally with production, maintenance, quality, and IT teams to deliver scalable Industry 4.0 solutions that reduce downtime, drive operational excellence, and support data-driven decision making across manufacturing operations.

Skills and Requirements

  • Hands on experience with PLC systems (Mitsubishi, Rockwell/ Allen Bradley, Siemens)
  • Strong programming skills in Python, C/C++, or JavaScript (Node.js)
  • Experience with industrial communication protocols (OPC UA, MQTT, Modbus, EtherNet/IP)
  • Familiarity with robotic automation systems (FANUC preferred)
  • Experience with SCADA and MES systems (Ignitions preferred) used in automotive production
  • Experience working in a manufacturing plant or Tier 1 manufacturing supplier
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices for industrial environments
  • Understanding of Semantic Data Structuring (Namespaces/UNS/ISA-95/Sparkplug B/EAM)
  • Subject Expertise on IOT Cloud Brokering (EDGE/MQTT/OPC-UA/MODBUS/SiteWise/Greengrass/IOT Hub)
