Job Title: Engineering Technician

Job Description

Join a growing aerospace and defense manufacturer as an Engineering Technician, where you will play a critical role in supporting production operations, maintaining manufacturing equipment, and driving process improvements. This is a hands-on engineering support position that combines troubleshooting, equipment maintenance, manufacturing process support, and operator assistance. As the primary technical resource on second shift, you will serve as the key liaison between Production and Engineering, ensuring manufacturing equipment remains operational, resolving technical issues quickly, and supporting continuous improvement initiatives. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys problem-solving, working directly with equipment, and making a visible impact on manufacturing performance.

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot, repair, and maintain manufacturing equipment to minimize equipment downtime and reduce production interruptions.

  • Respond quickly to technical issues on the manufacturing floor and implement effective solutions to restore equipment functionality.

  • Support production operators with manufacturing procedures, troubleshooting, and process-related questions to ensure smooth operations.

  • Serve as the primary technical point of contact for second-shift operations, providing guidance and support on equipment and processes.

  • Act as the communication link between Production, Manufacturing Engineering, and Quality teams to ensure alignment on technical issues and process changes.

  • Verify existing manufacturing processes and work instructions and recommend improvements to enhance quality, efficiency, and reliability.

  • Support both prototype and production assembly activities by providing technical assistance and equipment support.

  • Train and retrain operators on assembly techniques, manufacturing procedures, and proper use of equipment to maintain consistent standards.

  • Assist with continuous improvement initiatives focused on improving product quality, operational efficiency, and equipment reliability.

  • Troubleshoot product failures, participate in root cause investigations, and help implement corrective actions.

  • Collaborate with engineering teams on tooling, fixtures, equipment upgrades, and process improvements to support production goals.

  • Contribute to the development or updating of work instructions and test procedures to reflect best practices and process changes.

  • Provide leadership presence on second shift by acting as the go-to technical expert without direct reports, ensuring issues are escalated and resolved appropriately.

Essential Skills

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in a manufacturing, engineering technician, maintenance technician, electronics technician, or similar technical role.

  • Strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting abilities with a hands-on approach to diagnosing and resolving equipment issues.

  • Proven experience maintaining, repairing, and diagnosing production equipment and machinery in a manufacturing environment.

  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, work instructions, schematics, and process documentation accurately.

  • Experience supporting manufacturing operations and troubleshooting product or process issues on the production floor.

  • Strong communication skills with the ability to work independently and interact effectively with cross-functional teams.

  • Self-starter mentality with the ability to take initiative and manage responsibilities with minimal supervision.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications for documentation, reporting, and communication.

Preferred Skills

  • Associate's Degree in Electrical Engineering Technology or a related technical field

  • Electronics certification or technical trade certification in a relevant discipline.

  • Experience with J-STD-001 soldering standards in aerospace, defense, cable assembly, RF, microwave, or electronics manufacturing environments.

  • Experience in aerospace, defense, cable assembly, RF, microwave, or electronics manufacturing.

  • Experience training operators on manufacturing procedures and work instructions.

  • Experience supporting engineering teams with process improvements and continuous improvement initiatives.

  • Experience developing or updating work instructions and test procedures.

  • Knowledge of RF, microwave, or electronic test equipment and its use in production or test environments.

Work Environment

This role is based in an aerospace and defense manufacturing facility that combines a hands-on manufacturing floor environment with close collaboration in engineering support areas. You will work in a highly collaborative setting alongside Production, Quality, Manufacturing Engineering, and Test Engineering teams. The environment is fast-paced and requires strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills, as well as the ability to adapt to changing priorities. The position offers second shift leadership presence with significant autonomy, giving you the opportunity to act as the primary technical expert during that shift. Training is provided on first shift before transitioning into an independent second-shift role. The role may involve occasional travel of up to approximately 10% to support equipment, processes, or cross-site collaboration.
