Description

Summary Performs a variety of standard assembly operations to hand assemble a wide variety of bearings using hand tools, hand assembly fixtures, and basic assembly equipment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Assemble a wide variety of bearings using hand tools and hand assembly fixtures. Assembly procedures vary with type and size of bearings. Performs such operation as positioning cage in outer race; positioning rollers in cages; assembling end caps, washers and outer races; crimping end caps in place; inserting seals; assembling bushing; etc.

  • Grease parts prior to or after assembly, where required.

  • Tag work where necessary

  • Operate a hydraulic press and small mechanical press to assemble bushings. Press in rings, inserts, seals, etc. Adjust table height and stroke as required.

  • Use hand tools such as plastic and light steel ball-peen hammers, pliers-type hand clamps, air-operated light-force hammers, etc. Adjust as required.

  • Select proper fixtures, align, and secure tools.

  • Move parts for own work to and from nearby storage areas.

  • Inspect assembled bearings for proper inside diameter using plug gauge. Check freedom of rotation by spinning manually on a mandrel or by sliding onto a rotating mandrel. Select and charge motor driven mandrels.

  • Repair binding bearing assemblies by freeing rollers in cages. Break up bearings if they cannot be repaired.

  • Accumulate inspection data on assembled bearings and make composite report on acceptance, type and number of rejections, and responsible operator.

  • Use hand press to fracture races per established procedures.

  • Work from blueprints and written and verbal instructions.

  • Perform daily inspections on equipment

  • Perform preventive maintenance per instructions for machine

  • Record required information, either in written or electronic form, pertinent to production, quality, and time records; including scanning time and quantities in timely manner

  • Perform any other job-related duties per direction of supervisor or lead person.

  • Follow all safety and housekeeping rules, policies, and procedures.
