Job Description

Our client is seeking a Director of Finance & Accounting to lead the day-to-day accounting and financial operations of a multi-entity construction organization. This individual will serve as the right hand to the VP of Finance, taking ownership of the accounting function, improving financial processes, and driving greater visibility into company performance through reporting, forecasting, budgeting, and cost analysis. This role is ideal for a hands-on finance leader who can manage a team, ensure accurate financial reporting, oversee compliance and audits, and implement processes that allow leadership to make more informed business decisions. While not a CFO position today, this role offers significant visibility and growth potential for someone capable of operating at an executive level.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and oversee all accounting and finance operations across multiple entities, including operating companies, management companies, and asset holding entities.
  • Manage the accounting team, including Senior Accountants, AP Specialists, and Billing personnel.
  • Review and oversee monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting, including:
  • Balance Sheets
  • Profit & Loss Statements
  • Cash Flow Statements
  • WIP Reports
  • Cost Analysis Reporting
  • Ensure timely and accurate month-end and year-end close processes.
  • Own budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning processes.
  • Monitor project performance, profitability, and cost-to-complete reporting.
  • Oversee compliance with accounting standards, tax laws, financial regulations, and audit requirements.
  • Partner with external CPA firms, auditors, banks, and tax advisors.
  • Improve accounting processes, reporting timelines, internal controls, and operational efficiencies.
  • Analyze spending, profitability, and cost drivers to support strategic decision-making.
  • Assist executive leadership with long-term financial strategy and planning.

Skills and Requirements

  • 7+ years of progressive accounting and finance experience.

  • 3+ years of leadership experience managing accounting and finance teams.

  • Strong understanding of:

  • Financial Reporting

  • General Ledger Accounting

  • Month-End Close

  • Budgeting & Forecasting

  • Cost Accounting

  • Cash Flow Management

  • Internal Controls

  • Audit Preparation

  • Tax Compliance

  • Construction industry accounting experience. Experience with WIP Schedules and WIP Billing

  • CPA Certification.

  • Experience overseeing finance functions for construction.

  • Experience building budgeting and forecasting processes from the ground up.

  • Experience improving accounting workflows and implementing financial controls. Experience with Sage 3004
