It operates 86 libraries, 4 Cultural Resource Centers, and a mobile fleet consisting of 15 vehicles. Design and develop curriculum that addresses literacy, digital skills, STEAM education, and other community relevant topics in support of the department’s educational goals.

Evaluate existing educational programs, processes, and procedures and make recommendations to improve program effectiveness and achieve established educational goals and objectives.

Coordinate schedules, venues, and resources for educational workshops, classes, and community events that support library services and community engagement.
-
Represent the department at community meetings, educational conferences and professional organizations to build collaborate relationships, share best practices, and expand education opportunities.
-
Serve as the primary liaison and point of contact for educational initiatives; establish and maintain collaborative partnerships with schools, community organizations, nonprofit agencies, businesses, and other stakeholders to expand educational opportunities, coordinate resources, and support departmental goals.

Develop and implement evaluation tools and methods to assess program effectiveness, measure outcomes, and use findings to inform data-driven program improvements and curricular updates.

Analyze program data and prepare detailed reports supporting documentation for library leadership, funders, and grant applications.
-
Plan, implement, and oversee educational programs and events tailored to diverse demographics, including children, teens, adults, older adults, English learners, and other diverse populations.

Collaborate with library staff, volunteers, and external educators and partners to develop and deliver high-quality educational programs and join initiatives, including after-school programs, summer reading initiatives, and workforce development workshops.

Develop program budget proposals and oversee the acquisition of equipment, materials, and supplies necessary to support educational programs and instructional services.

Supervise and provide direction to professional and administrative support staff involved in the delivery of educational programs and services, as needed.

Perform other related duties as assigned.
There are two (2) options to qualify: Option I: Three years of experience in a staff capacity* analyzing and making recommendations regarding the development, coordination, implementation, and evaluation of educational programs, curriculum, training initiatives, community education, or instructional services.

At least one (1) year of the required experience must have been in a library system, an educational environment, community-based organization, or a similarly related field.

One (1) year of the required staff capacity experience may be substituted with a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university**.
Option II: Two years of experience at the level of*** the Los Angeles County class of Librarian IV**** developing, coordinating, implementing, and evaluating educational programs, curriculum, training initiatives, community education, or instructional services.
License A valid California Class C Driver License or the ability to utilize an alternative method of transportation when needed to carry out job-related essential functions.
Physical Class 2 – Light This class includes administrative and clerical positions requiring light physical effort that may include occasional light lifting to a 10-pound limit and some bending, stooping, or squatting. Considerable ambulation may be involved.
Special Requirement Information:
No Out-of-Class experience or withhold will be allowed. Required experience/education must be fully met at the time of filing and clearly indicated on the application.
*Staff capacity is defined as serving in an advisory and program support capacity to line managers and administrators by independently conducting research, analysis, evaluation, and making recommendations regarding the development, coordination, implementation, and improvement of educational programs, curriculum, training, initiatives, community education efforts, or instructional services. Work includes assessing program needs, developing recommendations, evaluating programs effectiveness, and providing technical guidance and administrative support to advance organizational goals and educational objectives.

Our Assessment Process The assessment will consist of a structured oral interview, and it is worth 100% of your total score.
The oral interview will assess:
- Curriculum Design & Instructional Methods
- Program Evaluation
- Community Engagement & Partnership Development
- Program Planning, Coordination & Implementation
- Data Collection, Reporting & Outcome Measurement
- Leadership, Collaboration & Professional Conduct
Applicants must receive a passing score of 70% or higher on the assessment to be added to the eligible list.
SPECIAL INFORMATION
Eligibility and Vacancy Applicants who passed the assessment are placed on a list in the order of their score group for a period of twelve (12) months. Applications will be processed as they are received and added to the list accordingly. We will use this list to fill vacancies in LA County Library as they occur.
Available Shift Appointees will be required to work any shift, including evenings, nights, and weekends.
