Full job description

Description

We believe strong underwriting decisions are essential for the success of our cooperative and members. As our Mortgage Loan Underwriter, you'll expertly balance giving the best member experience with the fastest approval process with growing a quality secondary-market investor portfolio, as well as our portfolio mortgages. Your collaborative team communication style, timely information gathering, and ability to share the basis of your decisions with your internal group support your talent for ensuring the right approvals and denials are made. If you are seeking a rewarding work environment where your skills are highly valued - we should talk!

As a Mortgage Loan Underwriter, you will:

  • Review mortgage loan applications and supporting documents in accordance with secondary market mortgage guidelines and render a credit decision with or without conditions

  • Work collaboratively with Mortgage Loan Originators to structure loan requests based on loan policy and secondary market guidelines

  • Recognize viable loan alternatives when initial requests are not feasible to give members a choice, rather than just a denial

  • Advise the mortgage team of required and closing conditions; reviews conditions and ensure they have been met

Our ideal candidate will have a combination of:

  • Bachelor's degree preferred

  • Minimum of three years of FNMA mortgage underwriting experience

  • Knowledge of Secondary Market/FNMA guidelines

  • Experience on conventional, portfolio, and non-QM underwriting

  • Detail-oriented with strong data analysis skills

  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written

  • Excellent organization and time management skills

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office systems
