The Office of Juvenile Justice is seeking a dedicated, student-focused Instructor to teach academic and job-readiness courses to youth in secure care at Bridge City Center for Youth. This role is ideal for someone who brings structure, positivity, and strong instructional skills to the classroom. As an Instructor, you’ll teach state-mandated curriculum, employability skills, and entry-level job skills while creating a learning environment that supports growth and rehabilitation. You’ll prepare lesson plans, organize instructional activities, and use diverse teaching strategies to meet the needs of students with varying learning styles and abilities. You’ll maintain professional development, prepare bi-weekly performance reports, communicate with OJJ Central Office, and meet all deadlines for lessons, attendance, and grades. Collaboration is key — you’ll work closely with school staff, serve on committees, and follow all OJJ and education policies and procedures. Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university

Candidates must have a valid Louisiana Teaching Certificate which includes certification in the area of employment as specified by Bulletin 746,Revised, Louisiana

Excellent communication, organization, and interpersonal skills
There may be additions and alternatives to the above qualifications as the Office of Juvenile Justice determines appropriate.The incumbent will serve a content instructor for Secondary Certified education core matters: General Studies / Math Instructor.
Job Duties:

Teaches state-mandated curriculum — delivers academic content, entry-level job skills, and employability skills to youth in secure care.

Plans and organizes instruction — writes lesson plans, prepares learning environments, adapts instruction for individual and group needs, and maintains reliable attendance.

Maintains professional development — participates in trainings, seminars, and conferences to stay current in instructional practices and behavioral principles.

Prepares reports and communicates with leadership — submits bi-weekly performance reports, communicates with OJJ Central Office, and meets all deadlines for lessons, attendance, and grades.

Uses diverse teaching strategies — adapts instruction to different learning styles, abilities, and interests; communicates concepts clearly in both oral and written formats.

Collaborates with staff — maintains strong communication with school and facility staff, serves on committees, and follows all OJJ/DOE policies and procedures.

Performs additional duties — completes tasks assigned by the Principal, immediate supervisor, or Youth Facility Director.
Position-Specific Details: Work Location: This vacancy is located at Bridge City Center for Youth in Bridge City, Louisiana. Appointment Type: Full time Work Schedule: 7.5 hours per work day Compensation: $36.18/hr The incumbent of this position must not have been convicted or pled nolo contendere to a crime listed in R.S. 15:587.1 (c)
