Full job description

Job Duties

Duties of classification involve such representative duties as determining client eligibility for selected programs; performing case support activities (i.e. home visits, ongoing licensing inspections, processing applications, etc.), transporting clients, updating and maintaining unit case records/files/databases, assists clients by paying bills and balancing individual client accounts, or various other activities as determined appropriate or delegated by supervisor or case managers. Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Performs a variety of paraprofessional support duties and tasks as delegated by supervisory personnel or case managers to support the unit, examples might include:

o Provides ongoing monitoring ongoing childcare home licensing. Conducts ongoing home inspections and client records.

o Conducts home visits in performing foster care licensing and renewals.

o Serves as a developmental disability intake worker meeting with clients and family to gather social history, obtain signed releases and additional information needed from other counties, schools, clinics or other sources.

o Determines eligibility and ongoing client eligibility under child care assistance. Responds to appeal requests of participants. Represents the agency at appeal hearings. Initiates fraud referrals when fraud is suspected.

o Interviews clients, family members or others to obtain, verify or compile necessary factual information required.

o Verifies applications for public housing to determine client eligibility for public assistance programs.

  • Provides client transportation and/or assistance. Transport clients to medical appointments and assists in the scheduling of appointments.

  • Provide money management services to individuals place on protective payee status or as assigned. Assists clients pay bills, go to the bank and assistance in balancing checkbooks.

  • Assist with chart audits.

  • Assist with case management.

  • Assess client insurance eligibility.

  • Assist the office staff in remaining compliant with the State Record Retention Policy.

  • Periodically handles questions of the public regarding department functions, activities, procedures and processes.

Minimum Education Required

  • High School Diploma or GED

Minimum Experience Required

  • One year of office and/or clerical experience

  • Valid Driver’s License

  • Ability to pass a standard background check

Job Benefits

Steele County will contribute to HSA/VEBA $1,700 for single or $3,500 for family (if you elect to pay for our Medical insurance that is provided by Medica); other benefits that are available include dental, vision, life insurance, long term disability insurance, deferred compensation plan, pension plan, employee assistance program, paid time off, etc.

Cost of living adjustment and pay increases per union contract. The pay range listed is our 2026 rates. We are currently set to receive a 4% cost of living adjustment on 1/1/2027.
