As Assistant Nurse Manager (ANM) supporting the Neurosurgery Spine and Cranial operating room services, you will provide clinical supervision and unit coordination to promote a cohesive team, effective care, and improved treatment outcomes. With an emphasis on professional development and success, you will encourage caregivers to enhance their skills and the patient experience through improvement initiatives and incentives. This position offers an opportunity to gain extensive leadership experience while continuing to provide the highest level of support and care possible.

A caregiver in this position works days + on-call shifts from 6:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.

A caregiver who excels in this role will:

  • Supervise and coordinate unit clinical operations.

  • Provide patient care.

  • Facilitate communication and collaboration among unit caregivers and other departments/units.

  • Ensure continuity of patient care information between shifts.

  • Coordinate patient admissions, discharges, transfers, and other operational issues.

  • Review major operational patient care issues with Nurse Managers.

  • Provide ongoing clinical evaluations of caregivers, counsel caregivers on performance issues, administer initial corrective actions, and monitor attendance issues.

  • Counsel employees on performance issues, administer initial corrective actions, and collaborate in monitoring attendance issues.

  • Interview, select, and orient new caregivers.

  • Prepare work schedules to ensure adequate coverage of all shifts.

  • Participate in and support quality improvement projects, outcomes, studies, and research initiatives.

  • Assume responsibilities of the Nurse Manager in their absence.

  • Provide clinical, operational, and personnel leadership for Neurosurgical services, ensuring safe, high-quality patient care across all phases of the perioperative continuum.

  • Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesia providers, nursing leaders, and multidisciplinary teams to optimize patient outcomes and operational efficiency for complex neurosurgical procedures.

  • Support the development, onboarding, competency validation, and ongoing professional growth of nursing and surgical technology caregivers within the Neuro service line.

  • Monitor performance metrics, quality indicators, patient safety events, and regulatory requirements; develop and implement action plans to drive continuous improvement.

  • Facilitate daily staffing and resource allocation to ensure appropriate coverage, caregiver engagement, and effective patient flow.

  • Lead and participate in process improvement initiatives, standardization efforts, and implementation of evidence-based practices to enhance quality, safety, and efficiency.

  • Serve as a coach and mentor to caregivers, fostering accountability, professional development, and a culture of collaboration and excellence.

  • Maintain specialized knowledge of neurosurgical procedures, equipment, technology, and emerging trends to support clinical practice and operational readiness.

  • Assist with budget stewardship, supply utilization, capital equipment planning, and vendor management within the Neuro service line.

  • Participate in off-shift leadership support, departmental committees, and organizational initiatives as needed.

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

  • Graduate from an accredited school of professional nursing

  • Bachelor's of Science in Nursing (BSN)

  • Current state licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN)

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross

  • Two years of recent clinical nursing experience

  • Strong demonstrated clinical knowledge and skills

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

  • Two years of critical care or Operating Room experience

  • Prior perioperative leadership experience

  • Prior experience as a charge nurse

  • Experience in Neurosurgery, Spine and Cranial surgeries

  • Demonstrated success leading teams through change, quality improvement, and caregiver engagement initiatives

Physical Requirements:

  • Requires full range of motion, manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination.

  • Requires standing and walking for extensive periods of time.

  • Requires corrected hearing and vision to normal range.

  • Requires some exposure to communicable disease or bodily fluids.

  • Medium Work - Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

  • Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Light Work.

Personal Protective Equipment:

  • Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
