Job Description
An employer is seeking an experienced CNC Programmer for a long term opportunity in the Dayton, OH area to support advanced manufacturing efforts for defense-related programs. This individual will be responsible for reviewing solid models, drawings, and specifications and translating them into efficient machining programs for 3-axis, 4-axis, 5-axis and 6-axis CNC equipment. The CNC Programmer will develop and prove out NC programs using Mastercam, CATIA, or equivalent software, while adjusting tool paths, speeds, and feeds to ensure quality and efficiency. This person will also support machine and tooling setup, design and fabricate fixtures, perform in-process inspections using precision measurement equipment, estimate machining time and material/tooling needs, and assist with planning and quoting new machining work. The ideal candidate is a highly experienced, self-sufficient machinist/programmer who can work independently, troubleshoot machining challenges, and contribute within a fast-paced engineering and manufacturing environment. The role will be on site in Dayton, OH five days a week and additional overtime hours are encouraged, but not required. The role has the opportunity to convert full time for the right consultant as well.
Skills and Requirements
10+ years of machining experience, including significant hands-on CNC machining experience. CNC programming experience using Mastercam, CATIA, or an equivalent CAM platform. Experience programming and operating multi-axis CNC equipment, including 3-, 4-, and 5-axis machining. Strong G-code, blueprint, GD&T/tolerance, and inspection skills, including use of calipers, micrometers, height gauges, and other precision measurement tools. Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance. Active Secret security clearance. Experience with HAAS and/or Hurco CNC equipment. Experience machining plastics and/or composite materials. Vocational or technical machining education, along with fixture design/fabrication and CNC lathe/mill experience.
