Full job description
About HitPay HitPay is full-stack payments infrastructure for growing businesses across APAC. Founded in 2016 and headquartered in Singapore, we bring e-commerce, point-of-sale and B2B payments (cards, PayNow, QR, digital wallets and local rails) into one platform, so merchants can accept, send and reconcile money across the region from a single account. More than 15,000 businesses use HitPay. We are regulated in six markets and backed by Tiger Global, Y Combinator, Global Founders Capital and HOF Capital. About the role As Financial Controller, you will be the most senior finance person at HitPay. You own the finance function end to end across our group entities: the books and close, merchant reconciliation, safeguarding, regulatory submissions and audit. You lead two Finance Operations Executives. This is a hands-on role. You will be in the reconciliations, the ledger and the numbers yourself, not reviewing from a distance. You will also work closely with the CEO as a genuine business partner. When a question comes up about unit economics, take rate, cost to serve or the margin on a payment method, you are the person who knows the answer and can show the working. What you'll own Books and close
- Run the monthly and annual close across all group entities: accurate books, closed on time, every month.
- Maintain the general ledger, intercompany positions, FX translation, revenue recognition and accruals.
- Produce management accounts and the reporting pack for the CEO, board and investors.
Merchant reconciliation and settlement
- Own daily and monthly reconciliation across acquirer and scheme settlement, our internal ledger, merchant payouts and the bank.
- Own the merchant payable position: know what we owe merchants at any point in time, and be able to prove it.
- Root-cause and clear breaks at source rather than carrying them forward.
- Work with Engineering and Operations to fix the upstream causes of recurring breaks.
Safeguarding and regulatory
- Own safeguarding of customer funds in every market where we hold a licence, including under the MAS Payment Services Act in Singapore: daily computation, segregation, safeguarding arrangements, and reconciliation of safeguarded balances against merchant liability.
- Prepare and file all regulatory submissions accurately and on time in every jurisdiction we operate in.
- Own the safeguarding audits in each jurisdiction, and any regulator queries or inspections that touch finance.
- Maintain the controls and evidence trail that make all of the above defensible.
Audit, tax and entity management
- Own the annual statutory audit for the group and each subsidiary, in every jurisdiction.
- Own the group's reporting calendar across every jurisdiction: financial statement filings, annual returns, tax filings and regulatory returns, each with a tracked deadline that is met.
- Be the auditors' primary contact: set the timeline, prepare PBC schedules, answer queries directly and close them out.
- Manage local auditors, tax agents and corporate secretarial providers across subsidiaries.
- Deliver signed accounts on time, without routine extensions.
Business partnering and unit economics
- Build and maintain a clear view of unit economics: revenue per merchant, take rate by product and payment method, processing cost, gross margin, cost to serve, and contribution by cohort and market.
- Bring findings to the CEO with a point of view: where margin is leaking, which products or merchants are unprofitable, and what should change.
- Support pricing, market entry, budgeting and fundraising with numbers you can stand behind.
Vendors and cost
- Negotiate commercial terms with acquirers, banks, processors, auditors and other vendors.
- Track spend against contracts and challenge cost that isn't earning its keep.
Team and systems
- Lead, coach and develop two Finance Operations Executives.
- Set the standard for accuracy and timeliness.
- Build the processes, documentation and automation that let the function scale without adding headcount in step with volume.
What success looks like In your first 90 days
- You have taken over the monthly close and run at least two closes yourself.
- You can state the merchant payable and safeguarded balance on any given day, and reconcile one to the other.
- You have mapped every entity's audit, tax and regulatory calendar, with owners and dates.
- You have shared your first view of where margin is leaking, with a recommendation.
In your first 12 months
- The group closes on a fixed, predictable timetable every month.
- Recurring reconciliation breaks have been fixed upstream, not just cleared.
- Every statutory audit and regulatory filing has landed on time, with no significant findings.
- The CEO and board use a unit economics view you built to make pricing and investment decisions.
- Your team runs day-to-day operations from documented processes, freeing you for higher-value work.
What we're looking for Required
- 6+ years in finance, starting in Big 4 audit or an equivalent assurance practice.
- Qualified accountant: CA (Singapore), ACCA, CPA or equivalent.
- Accountable ownership of a full-cycle close and a statutory audit, not just contribution to one.
- Experience managing auditors across multiple legal entities or jurisdictions.
- People management experience, or clear evidence you're ready for it.
- Genuinely hands-on: comfortable in a reconciliation of tens of thousands of transactions, and you'd rather open the file than ask for a summary.
- Strong Excel or Google Sheets skills with large transaction datasets.
- Based in Singapore with existing right to work.
Strongly preferred
- Payments, fintech, e-money or financial services experience, especially merchant settlement, float management or safeguarding.
- Working knowledge of payments licensing and safeguarding requirements across APAC, such as the MAS Payment Services Act in Singapore.
- SQL, or a willingness to learn it quickly. Much of what you need lives in our data warehouse.
- Experience in a startup or high-growth company where you built the finance function rather than inherited it.
How you work
- Deadlines are commitments. Close, filing and audit dates do not slip.
- You go to the root cause. A break that reappears next month wasn't fixed.
- You are direct with the CEO: you flag problems early and bring a recommendation with them.
- You are comfortable with ambiguity and build process where none exists.
Why this role You will own the entire finance function of a regulated, multi-entity payments business. You will have direct access to the CEO and real influence over pricing, cost structure and where the business invests. The scope is broader than a comparable role at a larger company, and the pace is faster.
