ESTIMATOR

The Estimator at Six Side Supply Metals Division is responsible for accurately assessing the costs associated with fabricating and supply miscellaneous metals for commercial construction projects. This role requires strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work closely with project managers, vendors, and subcontractors to provide accurate estimates and bid proposals.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required

Construction Management degree or equivalent experience

2+ years of construction project experience, preferably with subcontractor or self-perform trades

Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook) and construction management software (e.g., Procore, Bluebeam)

Preferred

Experience estimating miscellaneous metals, structural steel, or other specialty construction trades

Understanding of fabrication processes for steel, aluminum, and other steel

Experience working with commercial construction general contractors

Knowledge of AISC standards and welding procedures

Skills

Strong analytical, problem solving, and organizational skills

Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously

Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and project management software

Understanding of fabrication processes for steel, aluminum, and other metals

CORE RESPONSIBLITIES

Estimating & Bidding

Perform detailed take-offs for miscellaneous metals scopes

Develop bid cards, set up bid packages, and manage subcontractor solicitations

Ensure estimates include labor, material, fabrication, finishes and delivery

Analyze and compare subcontractor and vendor quotes

Assist in contract negotiations and value engineering efforts

Business Development & Client Relations

Engage with general contractors and project stakeholders to understand project needs

Assist in RFQ and RFP response to secure new opportunities

Maintain relationships with suppliers, fabricators, and subcontractors

Attend industry events, pre-bid meetings, and project interviews as required

Project Support

Work closely with project managers to transition estimates into awarded contracts

Support preconstruction efforts, including coordination with engineers and fabricators

Assist in scheduling and procurement planning for awarded projects

Track and analyze project costs compared to estimates for continuous improvement

General & Team Support

Attend company and project meetings, including safety stand-downs and coordination calls

Support Lean practices and participate in Six Side improvement initiatives

Engage in professional development and contribute to a collaborative team culture

OFFICE AND TRAVEL

Works in White Bear Lake office with periodic regional travel.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

This position requires prolonged periods of sitting at a workstation or during meetings and travelling (by plane or car). The employee must be able to lift to 20 pounds as needed, demonstrate dexterity to write and use a computer keyboard and mouse, and possess the ability to hear, speak clearly, and distinguish colors on graphs and charts.

The role also requires occasional visits to construction sites, where the employee may be exposed to dust, dirt, uneven surfaces, outdoor weather conditions, and extreme temperatures.

In alignment with our commitment to pay transparency, the hourly base salary range for this position is $81,000k-101,000k, excluding fringe benefits or potential bonuses. If you join McGough, your final base salary will be determined by several factors, including geography, location, skills, education, and experience. Furthermore, we place significant value on pay equity among our current team members as part of any final job offer.

Please note that the range provided above reflects the hiring range for this role. Hiring near the top end of this range would be atypical, as we aim to allow room for future salary growth. Additionally, McGough offers a comprehensive compensation and benefits package. This includes insurance coverage for medical, dental, vision, life, and disability. We also provide generous retirement plans, voluntary benefit plans, parental leave, substantial paid time off, and holiday pay.
