Department: Houston Health Department Division: Public Health Branch Section: Bureau of HIV/STI & Viral Hepatitis Prevention Reporting Location: 8000 N. Stadium Dr., Houston, TX 77054 Workdays & Hours: MONDAY – FRIDAY, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM* *Subject to change

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES

  • Conduct surveillance related to disease outbreak activities and conduct provider follow-up via phone calls and visits.
  • Secures medical records and information related to disease outbreak activities, triage incoming morbidity reports and Electronic Medical Record (eLR) labs. Also, manage pending file folder.
  • Performs field investigation activities related to disease outbreaks and activity as instructed by the PHI Supervisor & PHI Manager, and is available seven days a week to respond to suspected outbreaks
  • Collects and analyzes data and prepares reports on investigative activities and findings to be reviewed by PHI Supervisor and/or PHI Manager.
  • Acts as liaison to medical facilities and other governmental agencies involved in surveillance activities and projects. Establishes rapport with staff at these agencies. Identifies concerns and reports them to the PHI Supervisor and/or PHI Manager.
  • Assists in developing preventive measures and intervention in controlling disease outbreak activities.

WORKING CONDITIONS

The position is physically comfortable; the individual has discretion about walking, standing, etc. There are no major sources of discomfort, i.e., essentially normal office environment with acceptable lighting, temperature and air conditions.EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS Requires a Bachelor's degree in Public Health, Physical Sciences, Social Sciences or a related field.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS One year of professional experience in public health or health care is required. Internships, practicums, and similar programs may be evaluated and substituted for professional experience.

LICENSE REQUIREMENTS None.Preference shall be given to eligible veteran applicants provided such persons possess the qualifications necessary for competent discharge of the duties involved in the position applied for, such persons are among the most qualified candidates for the position, and all other factors in accordance with Executive Order 1-6.

(Bilingual Preferred)SELECTION / SKILLS TESTS REQUIRED None, However, the Department may administer a skills assessment test.

SAFETY IMPACT POSITION YES If yes, this position is subject to random drug testing and if candidate is promoted into this position, he/she must pass an assigned drug test

SALARY INFORMATION: GRANT FUNDED POSITION Grants & Special funded positions are dependent upon continued available funds. If funding is no longer available, employee may be laid off or transferred. Factors used in determining the salary offered include the candidate's qualifications as well as the pay rates of other employees in this classification.

PAY GRADE: 17
