Job Description:
Champion Petfoods is expanding! We are excited to announce we are looking for a Master Data Analyst (12-month contract) to join our rapidly growing company.
Champion Petfoods is an award-winning pet food maker with a reputation of trust spanning 35+ years. Founded in a small town in Alberta, Canada, Champion – with its ORIJEN® and ACANA® brands – is a key player in the global premium pet food industry across three major geographic regions.
We would love to hear from you if you are passionate about personal and professional growth and see yourself as a key player contributing to our continued success as an award-winning company.
Here's the Scoop – Summary
We are seeking a detail-oriented and collaborative Master Data Analyst (12-month contract) to join our Project Management Office (PMO).
In a fast-paced Consumer Packaged Goods (CPG) environment, clean, consistent, and structured data is the foundation of efficient operations, accurate reporting, and successful new product launches.
Reporting directly to the PMO Director and working in close partnership with the Master Data Manager, this "hands-on" role will be responsible for the accuracy, quality, and lifecycle management of our critical business data domains.
You will act as the bridge between strategic project milestones (such as New Product Introductions) and the technical execution of Master Data Management (MDM), ensuring that Champion operates with one source of truth.
The Master Data Analyst (12-month contract) works out of our Corporate office in Louisville (CO), Nashville (TN) or Edmonton (AB) and works a hybrid schedule with 3 days in-person.
What a typical day looks like:
Master Data Maintenance & Quality Assurance
-
Data Creation & Management: Execute the hands-on creation, maintenance, and modification of master data records across key domains, with a primary focus on the Product domain (product catalogs, packaging specs, formulation recipes, and hierarchies) as well as Customer, Supplier/Vendor, and Location domains.
-
Data Discrepancy Resolution: Actively troubleshoot data entry errors and resolve naming inconsistencies (e.g., standardizing brand nomenclature like "Six Fish" vs. "6 Fish", "Recipe" vs. "RCP") to prevent downstream operational issues.
-
Auditing & Cleansing: Perform regular data audits and execute cleansing procedures for obsolete, duplicate, or unused data to maintain a clean database and prevent team members from losing valuable time "hunting" for the right information.
-
Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs): Ensure all data-entry activities strictly adhere to established data standards, workflows, controls, and policies defined by the Master Data Manager and Finance Governance.
PMO Integration & Cross-Functional Alignment
-
Project Support & NPI Readiness: Collaborate with PMO Project Managers to track and coordinate master data readiness for New Product Introductions (NPI), stage-gate processes, and supply chain transitions.
-
Workflow Coordination: Facilitate cross-functional data collection workflows. Partner closely with Business Data Stewards in Sales, Marketing, Supply Chain, and Finance to ensure correct data inputs are gathered and uploaded in alignment with project timelines.
-
System Integration Support: Assist the Master Data Manager and IT teams in gathering requirements, defining data structures, and ensuring smooth, automated master data integration across multiple enterprise systems (ERP, PLM, MDM tools).
-
Progress Reporting: Prepare regular status reports and dashboards regarding data readiness, quality metrics, and bottleneck areas to the PMO and Master Data Manager.
Support & Enablement
-
End-User Training: Assist in developing training materials and provide ongoing support to business users and Data Stewards on data management workflows and standard practices.
-
Continuous Improvement: Identi fy and recommend areas for data quality improvements, process simplification, and automation opportunities within the PMO and broader business units
What are we looking for?
-
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Information Systems, Supply Chain, Project Management, or a related field.
-
Experience: 2–4 years of experience as a Data Analyst, Master Data Specialist, or Product Information Analyst, ideally within a CPG (Consumer Packaged Goods) or manufacturing company.
-
Domain Knowledge: Foundational understanding of Master Data Management (MDM) concepts (data governance, stewards, owners, schemas, and hierarchies).
Skills & Attributes:
-
Meticulous Attention to Detail: A natural instinct to spot and fix data discrepancies.
-
Collaboration & Communication: Excellent cross-functional communication skills to follow up with team members across different departments and hold others accountable for data deadlines.
-
Problem-Solving Mindset: A proactive attitude that thrives on resolving "rabbit holes" of data confusion and building efficient, standardized processes.
-
Project Management Orientation: Ability to manage multiple priorities and align data-related tasks with strict project timelines.
Systems & Tools
-
Strong proficiency with ERP systems (e.g., Microsoft Dynamics, SAP, JD
-
Edwards) and PLM/MDM software.• Intermediate to advanced Excel skills (VLOOKUPs, pivot tables, data cleaning functions).
-
Experience with data visualization tools (Power BI, Tableau) or PMO collaboration software is a plus
