The Shop Technician - Power is responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing natural gas reciprocating engine equipment used in power generation operations. This role requires technical expertise, attention to detail, and a commitment to safety and quality. The Shop Technician will work closely with the Shop Manager and other team members to ensure that all equipment is functioning efficiently and safely.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Performs job activities in a manner consistent with Kodiak’s procedures/protocols, goals and objectives.

  • Conduct regular inspections of equipment to identify potential problems and ensure compliance with safety and operational standards.

  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance and repair activities, including work orders, parts used, and time spent on each task.

  • Follow all safety procedures and guidelines to ensure a safe working environment.

  • Participate in safety training and meetings.

  • Perform routine maintenance and repairs on reciprocating engine equipment used in power generation operations, and related systems.

  • Work closely with other shop technicians and Shop Manager to address equipment issues and improve operational efficiency.

  • Ensure all repairs and maintenance tasks are performed to the highest quality standards and in accordance with manufacturer specifications.

Education & Certifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent; technical or vocational training in mechanical, electrical, or related field preferred.

Work Experience

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in maintenance and repair of power engine equipment such as reciprocating engines or similar mechanical systems.

Skills & Abilities

  • Strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills.

  • Proficiency in using diagnostic tools and equipment.

  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals and schematics.

  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.

  • Good communication and teamwork skills.

Physical Demands

  • Requires operation of heavy equipment.

  • Requires employee to stand for up to 75% of the time.

  • Requires employee to climb ladders or stairs to inspecting, repairing, and painting equipment.

  • Must be able to frequently lift at least 10 pounds, infrequent lifting of > 50 lbs.

  • High noise environment (>85dbA) will occur with ear protection.

  • Potential, controlled, exposure to hazardous chemicals.

  • Requires work in outdoor conditions, including extreme heat and extreme cold.

  • Requires moving and maintaining self in different positions—stoop, kneel, crouch and crawl to accomplish tasks in various environments including tight and confined spaces.

  • Must wear all required PPE, including fire-retardant clothing, hard hats, face shields, hearing protection, safety glasses, and steel-toed boots.

  • Requires an employee to frequently type and use computer and other office equipment such as a copier, printer, calendar, telephone, etc.
