Full job description

Introduction

IBM Quantum is leading the way to build useful quantum computers taking advantage of the latest methods in quantum error correction. Scaling up these systems to the sizes required for fault tolerance will require a change in how quantum computers have been built to date. IBM Research in Yorktown Heights, NY is uniquely storied to help in this endeavor having been key to advances in classical computing from signalling, DRAM memory and communications throughout its more than 60 years of history. Your role and responsibilities

You will be working on quantum hardware, electrical and mechanical studies for improving the reliability and scaling (RESCALE) our quantum systems. Good hands, excellent attitude and a sharp mind are required. There will be weekly updates to senior colleagues and other interns so communication is a big part of this.

Required technical and professional expertise

  • We seek a graduate student working in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, physics or a related field with expertise in cryogenics, experimental quantum computing or adjacent fields.

Preferred technical and professional experience

  • Superconducting materials or qubit experience, quantitative electromagnetic simulation experience, ways to compensate for CTE mismatch under 300 deg C excursions, and precision assembly.
