Job Description

Insight Global is seeking a Senior Transport Planning Engineer to support a large-scale telecommunications network planning and modernization program. This individual will be responsible for developing network growth, capacity, and evolution plans across complex transport and backbone networks while partnering with engineering, operations, and implementation teams to deliver scalable network solutions.

This role requires a strong foundation in transport network planning, capacity forecasting, optical transport technologies, and network infrastructure design. The ideal candidate will be comfortable working across multiple network domains, driving projects forward independently, and collaborating with stakeholders across various engineering disciplines.

Responsibilities Perform transport network planning and capacity management activities for core and metro network environments Develop network growth, expansion, and modernization plans based on traffic forecasts, utilization analysis, and business requirements Create implementation-ready engineering packages and planning documentation for downstream design and deployment teams Analyze network performance, capacity utilization, and future growth requirements Support optical transport and backbone network planning initiatives Coordinate with cross-functional stakeholders to prioritize work, communicate impacts, and drive project execution Contribute to capital planning, budgeting, and forecasting efforts Identify network constraints, risks, and opportunities for optimization

Ensure planning activities align with industry standards, engineering best practices, and regulatory requirements Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers when needed.

This position will pay $40-$80/hr based on years of experience.

Skills and Requirements

5+ years of transport planning, network planning, or telecommunications engineering experience Strong understanding of transport network architecture and capacity planning methodologies Experience with: SONET Ethernet DWDM Optical Transport Networks Transport Engineering Principles Knowledge of core backbone and metro network planning concepts Experience performing network growth forecasting and utilization analysis Understanding of central office infrastructure including power, alarm, and common systems Experience supporting telecommunications network design and implementation initiatives Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills Excellent verbal and written communication skills Ability to work independently and proactively Experience supporting large telecommunications service provider environments Familiarity with Outside Plant (OSP) engineering concepts Experience managing project budgets, forecasts, and funding requests Prior experience mentoring engineers or leading cross-functional initiatives Exposure to network modernization, migration, or transformation programs Experience with one or more of the following is preferred: TIRKS MetaSolv LCAM Network inventory and planning platforms
