About Harris County Flood Control District: The Flood Control District has the mission to reduce the risk of flooding in Harris County, the third most populated county in the United States, with a population in excess of 4.7 million, including the City of Houston, the nation’s fourth largest city. The Flood Control District has jurisdiction over the primary stormwater facilities in the county, which consist of approximately 1,500 channels totaling nearly 2,500 miles in length, as well as more than 60 regional stormwater detention basins, totaling more than 10,000 acres and several wetlands mitigation banks including Greens bayou.

What you will do at Harris County Flood Control District: The District is seeking qualified candidates for the Design Technician position, which is responsible for providing construction document drafting, exhibit preparation, record research, and data entry to support the Maintenance Engineering department.

Essential Functions & Duties: CAD & Drafting

  • Use computer-assisted drafting (CAD) equipment and software to draft detailed construction drawings, topographical profiles, and related construction documents from detailed surveys.

  • Convert rough sketches or drawings, and other engineering data received from the maintenance engineering designers or engineers into CAD drawings.

  • Plot construction plans showing profiles and cross-sections.

Records & Documentation

  • Research archived drawings to determine the availability of existing plans on past projects.

  • Prepare record drawings.

  • Prepare maps and exhibits required by the department engineers.

Calculations

  • Compute quantities of excavation and fill and other related construction materials for each project.

Additional Duties

  • Assume additional responsibilities as required, adapting to the District's evolving demands, responsibilities, needs, and objectives.

Education and Experience:

  • Requires a high school diploma or equivalent.

  • Requires experience with the latest versions of AutoCAD.

Licensure:

  • Valid Class "C" Texas Driver’s License

  • Familiar with SharePoint and Adobe Acrobat Professional.

  • Attention to detail.

  • Solve simple mathematical problems that may be required in normal work situations.

  • Associate degree from an accredited college or university. (preferred)

  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience related to the civil engineering field. (preferred)

  • Civil 3D experience. (preferred)
