The Office of Career and Professional Development resides in the Division of Student Affairs and Enrollment. The office's mission is to create and support a career ecosystem that includes faculty, staff and external stakeholders for the purpose of enabling career success for all UAlbany students. The office provides career advising and education as well as employer and alumni engagement for students to assist as they search for jobs and internships. The office works proactively within Student Affairs and Enrollment as well as with partners in Academic Affairs, Development, Athletics and Alumni.
The Assistant Director for Volunteer Coordination and Capital Region Employer Engagement oversees the tracking of volunteer hours that students partake in. Local employer outreach will involve identifying, building, and maintaining relationships with local businesses to create employment (internships, fellowships, part-time & full-time jobs) and engagement (fairs, workshops, seminars, career guidance, and employer panels) opportunities. Responsibilities include networking, assessing employer hiring needs, coordinating job postings and promotions, internships, and organizing hiring events. Outreach staff often train, support, and connect job seekers with these partners.
Primary Responsibilities:

Develop and maintain Capital Region employer relationships to expand the range of employer recruiting activities including volunteer.

Foster relationships with local government, state, and county agencies, Capital Region Chamber of Commerce, and local businesses.

Serve as primary contact for job seekers and coordinating with community groups to connect student populations with employment opportunities.
-
Align partnership efforts with local business objectives and workforce needs.

Identify and develop Memoranda of Understanding to establish continuous internship/fellowship opportunities for the UAlbany student population.

Identify funding opportunities, assist with grant applications, and manage project budgets.
-
Collaborate and train hiring managers on the university's timesheet and paperwork procedures and processes.

Tracking and Reporting: Document volunteer hours conducted by students. In addition, track employer interactions and progress on recruitment goals using career platform analytics.

Maintain and manage completion of volunteer hours and activities by students using the Engage platform.
-
Promote or encourage students' testimonials of internship experiences.
-
Access outcomes by surveying students and employers' experiences.
-
Track organizations' conversion rate of internships to full-time employment.
-
Monitor program effectiveness through performance metrics and preparing reports to evaluate the impact on the community.

Assess employer hiring needs.
-
Utilize Handshake to assist employers with posting and promoting internships and jobs.

Discuss practices for employers' recruitment efforts.
-
Organize interviewing/hiring events for part-time and full-time opportunities for UAlbany students.

Develop job/internship readiness programs, assist with resume creation, and conduct mock interviews.

Compliance and Barrier removal and Support: Ensure all partnerships and job experiences adhere to program guidelines.

Establish concise guidelines for students and employers regarding issues of concern and expectations.

Create policies and procedures to address violations related to the University at Albany Community Standards and Responsibilities.

Implement initiatives to help participants overcome barriers like a lack of transportation, low-paid/non-paid internship opportunities.

Job Requirements:

Strong communication and organizational skills.

Ability to manage data.

Proficient in CRM systems, data analysis, and reporting tools, with experience generating insights and tracking performance metrics.

Skilled in delivering presentations, facilitating workshops, and hosting engaging events for students, employers, and community partners.

Job Requirements:
Minimum Qualifications:
-
Bachelor's degree from a college or University accredited by the US Department of Education or internationally recognized accrediting organization.

2 to 3 years of relevant experience in career development, volunteer coordination/management, higher education, client relations, community engagement sales or related field.
-
Experience in leveraging career platforms to facilitate recruiting, employer relations, and student engagement.
-
Experience building and maintaining strong relationships with business leaders and community partners to create meaningful opportunities for students and support organizational goals.
-
Experience with CRM software, data analysis, and reporting tools to support decision-making and operational efficiency.
Preferred Qualifications:
-
3 to 5years of experience in career development, volunteer management, higher education, client relations, community engagement, sales or related field.
-
Proficient in leveraging career platforms to facilitate recruiting, employer relations, and student engagement.
-
Demonstrated success in collaborating with business leaders and community partners to develop strategic partnerships, expand engagement initiatives, and enhance program outcomes.

Professional Rank and Salary Grade: Senior Staff Assistant, SL3, $60,245.
