As an integral member of the operating room team, you will prepare and maintain a sterile environment, assist with patient preparation, anticipate the needs of surgeons during procedures, and support infection prevention and safety standards. Responsibilities

  • Prepare operating rooms for procedures by ensuring instruments, equipment, and supplies are available, functional, and aligned with surgeon preferences.

  • Assist with patient preparation, positioning, draping, and transfer activities to support safe, efficient surgical care.

  • Maintain strict sterile technique and infection prevention standards throughout surgical procedures.

  • Anticipate surgeon needs by passing instruments, managing retractors, applying suction, and providing procedural support.

  • Perform surgical counts and assist with specimen handling, labeling, and transport to ensure accuracy and patient safety.

  • Support circulating nurse responsibilities and collaborate closely with the perioperative team to deliver exceptional patient care.

  • Clean, restock, and prepare operating rooms between procedures to maintain workflow efficiency.

  • Promote compliance with safety, regulatory, and accreditation standards, including HIPAA, OSHA, AORN, AAMI, and DNV requirements.

  • Mentor students and new team members, contribute to quality improvement initiatives, and support a culture of continuous learning and teamwork.

Qualifications

Education:

  • High school diploma or  GED required .

  • Graduate from an accredited education program for Surgical Technology,  OR  graduate from an appropriate training program in the US Armed Forces  OR  Medical Certification  OR  LPN required .

Experience:

  • Previous surgical technologist or equivalent experience preferred.

License(s)/Certification(s):

  • Must possess and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required within 90 days of hire through the American Heart Association.

  • IL & IA Child Abuse Mandatory Reporter training in state(s) where providing care required within 60 days of hire.

  • IL & IA Dependent Adult Abuse Mandatory Reporter Training in state(s) where providing care required within 60 days of hire.
