Duties Description Duties include but may not be limited to:• Perform civil engineering duties including collecting and analyze data on existing infrastructure, topography, and environmental conditions. Review water, sanitary sewer, storm sewer and other infrastructure systems.• Prepare site civil drawings and details, specifications, estimates, and/or studies for design projects. • Coordinate design drawings and related specifications, construction costs estimates, etc., with the other technical disciplines. • Actively manage the schedule of assigned projects according to workload, priorities, and design schedules.• Review reports, drawings, specifications, and cost estimates prepared by design consultants.• Actively oversee consultant design work for assigned projects.• Develop and maintain project documentation, including records of meetings, correspondence, and progress• Review shop drawings, respond to contractor Requests for Information, create and/or review Information Bulletins, and provide similar construction administration and observation during the project’s construction.• Perform a full range of supervisory duties, including reviewing the work of subordinate staff.Operational Needs:• Travel may be required (approximately 20%). • Possession and maintenance of a valid Driver’s License issued by the NYS Department of Motor Vehicle is required or otherwise demonstrate the capacity to meet the transportation needs of the job.

Minimum Qualifications This title is part of the New York Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement Statewide Program (NY HELPS)* and applicants must meet the following minimum qualifications to be considered for this position:A New York State Professional Engineer's license and current registration AND a qualifying bachelor's degree or higher as listed below; OR a New York State Professional Engineer's license and current registration AND one year of full-time qualifying engineering experience as listed below.Qualifying degrees: Architectural Engineering, Architectural Engineering Technology, Building Engineering, Civil Engineering, Civil Engineering Technology, Construction Engineering, Construction Engineering Technology, Construction Engineering Management, Construction Engineering Management Technology, Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, Electrical Power Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Environmental Engineering Technology, Environmental Design Engineering, Environmental Resources Engineering, Environmental Systems Engineering, Geological Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, Hydraulics Engineering, Materials Engineering, Materials Science and Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, Metallurgical and Materials Engineering, Structural Engineering, or Engineering Science with a recognized concentration in any of the above listed engineering degrees.Qualifying experience: One year of full-time engineering experience related to construction project supervision of the structural and architectural elements of the building.ORCurrent New York State employee with one year or more of qualifying permanent service in a position allocated to a Grade 22 or above and eligible for transfer under Section 70.1 of the Civil Service Law.NOTE: IN ORDER TO AWARD THE PROPER CREDIT FOR WORK EXPERIENCE, RESUMES MUST INCLUDE MONTH AND YEAR FOR START AND END DATES. IF ANY OF THIS EXPERIENCE IS LESS THAN FULL TIME YOU MUST INDICATE THE AVERAGE NUMBER OF HOURS WORKED PER WEEK.

Additional Comments *There is no examination required for appointment to a NY HELPS position. Candidates hired via NY HELPS will be appointed on a permanent non-competitive basis and will begin a probationary period.At a future date (within one year of permanent appointment), it is expected that NY HELPS employees will have their non-competitive employment status converted to competitive status, without having to take an exam. Employees will then be afforded with all the same rights and privileges of competitive class employees of New York State.
