Full job description

Position / Title: Paraeducator – General Education (including ELL, class size, and different funding sources) Bargaining Unit: DUEADepartment/Location: Assigned Elementary/Secondary School Calendar Days: 195Reports To: Building Principal and Assigned Teacher JD Revision Date: 07/17/2024Supervises: N/A

Function / Position Summary Enhance the student's mastery of concepts and academic skills in targeted subject areas based on student/classroom needs. Reinforce classroom instruction for individual student or small/whole groups. Perform duties and activities under direct supervision of a certified staff member. Adhere to published policies and procedures distributed by the district and school. Maintain confidentiality of student, staff and department information within the school and community

Job Duties / Responsibilities

  • Implement individual or small/whole group instructional lessons or related activity under the supervision of the assigned certified teacher.
  • Document and report student behavior as directed by the teacher.
  • Collaborate with the teacher, prepare and maintain materials.
  • Escort students within the building, as directed by the classroom teacher.
  • Attend meetings and staff development activities as assigned, providing observations and reports as requested.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education

  • Para Educator, Substitute, Professional Educator or Provisional Educator License required.
  • Minimum education requirement for a Para Educator License is completion of at least 60 semester hours of college course work or a passing score on the ETS Para Pro exam or two specific Work Keys exams.
  • Bilingual - Spanish/English (written/verbal) preferred. Certain assignments require Bilingual – Spanish/English.

Experience / Knowledge

  • Effective communication skills.
  • Experience working with students in an educational setting preferred.

Physical Demands

  • Excellent physical agility and quick response time.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.

Terms of Employment

  • This is a 10-month position; 6.5 hours per day.

  • Salary and benefits established by the Board of Education and set forth in the collective bargaining agreement as applicable.
  • Minimum $22.48 per hour per union agreement.
