Admissions Department College Assistant (Hourly)
GENERAL DUTIES
-
Under supervision, performs miscellaneous clerical, administrative, research or other work related to the operation of a College or other unit where such work is required on a part-time basis or for a period of limited duration.

There is one Assignment Level for this position. All personnel perform related work. This specification describes typical assignments; related duties may be assigned as
needed.

Maximum tenure for any employee in this hourly position is 1040 hours per year.
-
Performs routine clerical work; may answer and attend to telephone calls; maintain records,
operate office machines (such as copier), sort and distribute mail, issue keys and identity cards,
act as messenger, and perform related tasks as required.

Types letters, memoranda, charts, and similar materials.
-
Acts as cashier.
-
Assists in statistical or research activities. May collect and compile data, code data for computer entry, perform data entry, and run computer reports.

Performs clerical library work, such as sorting and shelving books, performing data entry into library systems, or binding books and periodicals.
-
Assists in instructional programs, including tutoring and assisting students in areas such as reading and mathematics. May assist in speech and hearing therapy, provide musical accompaniment, and/or distribute and collect physical education equipment.

Enters and maintains departmental records such as inventory control records, rosters, directories, and schedules.

May operate computers, computer software, and other electronic equipment in performing assigned tasks.

CAMPUS SPECIFIC INFORMATION
The Sophie Davis School of Biomedical Education/CUNY School of Medicine, BS/MD offers extracurricular engagement through clubs and organizations that serve as career preparation and medical enrichment opportunities for students enrolled in this program. These experiences help support and prepare students for a healthcare profession.
The Office of Admissions also supports and engages student clubs and organizations. Students that participate on campus clubs and student-centered organizations through their involvement often learn important leadership skills. These clubs and organizations are have partnered with the Office of Admissions. This specific position requires students to assist the Director of Undergraduate Admissions and Enrichment Programs with administrative engagement of students and various school clubs and organizations.
We seek to hire Sophie Davis students in their U1 through M4 years to serve as medical ambassadors and participate in educational enrichment i.e. assistance with data organization, research and tutoring. Responsibilities also include administrative assistance with admissions recruitment and student admissions interviews.

Medical Ambassador responsibilities include but not limited to:

Assists the Director of Admissions with administrative tasks related to Brothers M.D. Initiative and other school organizations.

Help prepare students in core high school science, math and English courses by offering tutoring support.

Participate in statistical and data centered research and help prepare administrative reports.
-
Assist student clubs, committees and organizations with administrative needs when necessary.

Help identify and implement alternative communication networks (i.e. online chat and social media platforms) for students to engage with each other directly.
-
Engage with Brothers, M.D. Initiative alumni by contacting alums regarding various initiatives and forwarding approved email communications.
-
Serve as liaison between students and Director of Admissions to clarity information and assist with maintaining cohesion in the program.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Must demonstrate sufficient skills to perform the duties of the assigned tasks.
OTHER QUALIFICATIONS
-
Enrolled first year undergraduate through fourth year of medical school.

Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills, along with a strong focus on customer service.
-
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) and general office technology.
-
Experience with admissions recruitment events such as high school and on campus student visits to CUNY Med and various student welcome receptions.
-
Familiarity with student research preferred.
COMPENSATION
This is a part-time position of up to 20 hours per week, scheduling of the days can be worked out.
Hourly Rate Range - $25.00
