What You Will Be Doing

As the Staff Quality Engineer you will be responsible for driving quality excellence throughout the development of our new space program, from early design through production.

Your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Lead quality audits and inspections for emerging IR technology to assess TRL/MRL status.

  • Develop and maintain the program quality plan meeting AS9100 and contractual requirements.

  • Facilitate Design FMEA and translate findings into Process FMEAs for manufacturing readiness.

  • Define advanced gauging, fixtures, and inspection methods for prototype validation.

  • Analyze quality data, build KPI dashboards, and drive root‑cause investigations and corrective actions.

MUST BE A U.S. CITIZEN - This position is located at a facility that requires special access.

Basic Qualifications

  • U.S. citizenship and the ability to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in a STEM field (Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics)

  • Deep operational knowledge of Quality Management Systems (AS9100, ISO 9001) including the creation of inspection plans, execution of First‑Article Inspections to AS9102, and management of special‑process compliance

  • Robust proficiency in Risk Management methodologies, including DFMEA, PFMEA, and Fault Tree Analysis (FTA)

  • Ability to travel for supplier‑site visits, audits, or project support

Desired Skills

  • ASQ Certified Quality Engineer (CSQ) and / or Certified Quality Improvement associate (CQIA)

  • Lean Six Sigma Certification (Green Belt / Black Belt)

  • Proficiency in interpreting engineering drawings, applying GD&T, and conducting mechanical/electrical inspections of electro/optical assemblies; capable of identifying supplier quality deficiencies and driving effective corrective actions

  • Experience collaborating with supplier quality, process engineering, manufacturing, and systems teams to resolve issues, qualify early-stage technology vendors, and seamlessly transition the product line to full manufacturing readiness

  • Effective communication skills: written, oral, listening, and technical writing

  • Effective interpersonal skills including team building and collaboration

  • Leadership and customer relationship management skills

Pay Information

Full-Time Salary Range: $118000.00 - $219100.00

The salary range for this position is as listed on the requisition. Please note that the salary information listed is a general guideline only. Lockheed Martin considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/ training, key skills as well as market(work location) and business considerations when extending an offer.

Benefits offered: Medical, Dental, Vision, Flexible work arrangements and schedules (e.g., 4x10), 401(k) match, Paid time off, Holidays, Parental Leave, EAP, Flexible Spending Accounts, Education Assistance, Life Insurance, Short-Term Disability, and Long-Term Disability.

  • Annual short-term and/or long-term incentive compensation programs may be offered depending on the position. Payments under these annual programs are not guaranteed and can vary from year to year and are tied to a range of performance metrics.

  • For (Washington state applicants only) Non-represented full-time employees: accrue at least 10 hours per month of Paid Time Off (PTO) to be used for incidental absences and other reasons; receive at least 90 hours for holidays. Represented full time employees accrue 6.67 hours of Vacation per month; accrue up to 52 hours of sick leave annually; receive at least 96 hours for holidays. PTO, Vacation, sick leave, and holiday hours are prorated based on start date during the calendar year.
