Occupational Therapist (Full-Time)
UPMC is seeking a compassionate and skilled Occupational Therapist to join our rehabilitation team! If you are passionate about helping patients regain independence and improve their quality of life, this is an excellent opportunity to make a meaningful difference every day while working alongside a collaborative, multidisciplinary care team.

Prior acute care experience strongly preferred

ResponsibilitiesPatient Assessment & Treatment
-
Perform comprehensive occupational therapy evaluations, reassessments, and treatments for pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients.
-
Develop individualized plans of care, including treatment goals and interventions based on physician referrals, patient needs, and clinical findings.
-
Monitor patient progress and modify treatment plans as appropriate to optimize outcomes.
-
Collaborate with Occupational Therapy Assistants and provide supervision to ensure effective patient care delivery.
Communication & Care Coordination
-
Communicate patient progress, treatment recommendations, and clinical updates to physicians and members of the healthcare team.
-
Provide patients and family members with verbal and written home program instructions to support continued progress outside of therapy sessions.
Documentation & Compliance
-
Maintain accurate and timely documentation, including evaluations, treatment notes, reassessments, and discharge summaries in accordance with departmental and regulatory standards.

Review and co-sign Occupational Therapy Assistant documentation as required.
-
Complete charge capture and statistical reporting to ensure accurate service documentation.
Education & Professional Development
-
Support the organization's clinical education program by supervising occupational therapy students during clinical rotations as requested.

Maintain current licensure and professional competency through continuing education and ongoing professional development activities.
-
Attend and actively participate in department meetings, training programs, and educational opportunities.
Department Support
-
Schedule and manage patient caseloads to meet productivity and quality standards while providing excellent patient care.

Assist with coverage across treatment areas as needed to support operational and patient care needs.
Education
- Graduate of an accredited Occupational Therapy program approved by the Accreditation Council for Occupational Therapy Education (ACOTE).
Experience & Knowledge
-
Demonstrated knowledge of occupational therapy principles, practices, and patient care techniques.
-
Knowledge of normal human growth and development across the lifespan.
-
Understanding of medical terminology and healthcare documentation.
-
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret medical records and related clinical documentation.
-
Active participation in professional healthcare organizations is preferred.
Skills & Abilities

Strong customer service and patient-centered care skills.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
-
Ability to collaborate effectively with patients, families, physicians, interdisciplinary team members, leadership, and other stakeholders.

Strong organizational, time management, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills.

Ability to assess patient needs and develop appropriate treatment plans.

Demonstrated ability to identify opportunities for program growth and service expansion.
-
Ability to prioritize responsibilities and adapt to changing patient and departmental needs.
Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances
-
Current Occupational Therapist (OT) license in the practicing state required.
-
National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT) certification required.
-
Basic Life Support (BLS) or Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification required within 30 days of hire. Certification must meet American Heart Association (AHA) standards and include both didactic and hands-on skills demonstration components.

Act 33 Child Abuse Clearance (with renewal).
-
Act 34 Criminal Background Check (with renewal).
-
Act 73 FBI Fingerprint Clearance (with renewal).
Additional Requirements
-
Must successfully complete all required system, facility, department, and role-specific orientations and competencies.
-
May, in the course of job duties, enter areas where medications are stored; no contact with medications is permitted.
