AI Software Applications Lead for Power Systems

Location:

Job Summary and Description:

The AI Software Applications Lead for Power Systems will design, implement, test and support a variety of AI-native software applications for the energy sector. The person will lead a product development team of developers to achieve research manager objectives. The person will also collaborate with EPRI’s Transmission Operations & Planning and IGES leadership to develop and implement a long-term strategy for enduring AI-native software solutions for power systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Strategy and Leadership: Collaborate with EPRI leaders to develop strategy for AI-native software applications for power systems.

  • Architect & Deploy AI Solutions: Design, architect and build AI-native software applications to meet EPRI research leader objectives. Work with EPRI IT infrastructure to maximise and optimise resources for solutions.

  • Architect, develop, test, and deploy frameworks for advanced power system data and simulation visualization for Transmission Operations and Planning applications, and support the development of a strategy for leveraging these capabilities across other sectors

  • Architect, develop, test and deploy agentic frameworks for interaction between users and EPRI power system software.

  • Architect, develop, test and deploy a framework for testing, modification and validation of use of AI in the energy sector and critical infrastructure. This includes developing guardrails for agentic workflows, in partnership with the EPRI cyber security team.

  • Explore the landscape of new and emerging technologies that may be appropriate for EPRI AI and software applications. Test and develop as appropriate. This may or not encompass direct partnerships with technology providers.

  • Lead a technical product team(s) of researchers and software developers in EPRI to achieve outcomes, including directing work and support. This may or may not involve direct people management responsibilities depending on preference.

Required Skills & Experience

  • Master or Phd. Degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering with emphasis on AI applications for Power Systems.

  • 3+ years in AI development, with focus on power system applications.

  • Expertise in Query Orchestration for complex AI pipelines.

  • Strong knowledge of RAG architectures for AI-powered search.

  • Hands-on experience with Azure and HPC platforms.

  • Proficiency in vector search, embeddings, and hybrid retrieval techniques.

  • Experience with Kubernetes (AKS) and containerized deployments.

  • Strong Python development skills for AI pipelines.

The salary range for this position is $0 USD to $0 USD annually.

This salary range is an estimate, and the actual salary may vary based on various factors, including without limitation applicant's education, experience, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data. The salary may also be adjusted based on applicant's geographic location.

This role is eligible to participate in EPRI’s annual incentive program. The amount of incentive varies and is subject to the terms and conditions of the plan.

This role is eligible to participate in EPRI’s standard employee benefit programs, which currently include the following: medical, dental, vision, 401k, STD/LTD and paid family leave, life and accident insurance, paid time off (flexible vacation, sick leave, and holiday pay).
