Full job description

Description We are looking for an Assistant Controller to support core accounting operations and strengthen financial oversight for a long-term contract assignment based in Schenectady, New York. This position will play an important role in maintaining accurate records, guiding close activities, and helping deliver reliable financial reporting in a deadline-driven environment. The ideal candidate brings hands-on accounting experience, strong attention to detail, and the ability to work effectively across audits, compliance needs, and day-to-day financial processes.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead recurring close activities by reviewing account activity, preparing entries, and ensuring financial results are finalized accurately and on schedule.

  • Maintain the integrity of the general ledger through account analysis, reconciliations, and timely resolution of discrepancies.

  • Prepare internal and external financial reports that support leadership decision-making and meet established reporting standards.

  • Partner with audit stakeholders by organizing documentation, answering inquiries, and assisting with financial statement audit deliverables.

  • Support compliance with DCAA-related expectations by helping maintain records, controls, and supporting schedules.

  • Monitor work in progress balances and related accounting activity to promote accurate project and cost reporting.

  • Use Sage Intacct to manage accounting transactions, reporting outputs, and financial data review.

  • Contribute to process improvements within accounting operations, including updates tied to reporting workflows or system-related changes when needed. Requirements • At least 3 years of accounting or finance experience, including responsibility for close cycles and ledger maintenance.

  • Practical knowledge of month-end close procedures, journal entries, reconciliations, and financial reporting.

  • Experience supporting financial statement audits and preparing documentation for auditors.

  • Familiarity with DCAA requirements and accounting practices in regulated or contract-driven environments.

  • Proficiency with Sage Intacct or similar accounting platforms.

  • Understanding of work in progress accounting and its impact on financial results.

  • Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple deadlines effectively.
