Summary

The Smithsonian Institution is the world's largest museum, education, and research complex, with 21 museums and the National Zoo. This position is located in the Office of Equal Opportunity (OEO). Duties

The Equal Employment Specialist is responsible for administering a variety of assignments in support of the Smithsonian's EEO programs, including alternative dispute resolution (ADR), special emphasis programs (SEP), reasonable accommodations (RA), EEO training, affirmative employment, and the EEO discrimination complaint process. In this position, you will: Assist with conducting requests for intakes; oversee and update complaint tracking database. Monitor complaints to ensure effective and efficient completion and takes appropriate actions to expedite complaint processing when necessary. Assist in the coordination and implementation of the ADR program for workplace discrimination complaints. Provide assistance with efforts to establish and maintain a model EEO program in accordance with EEOC and Smithsonian directives, including (but not limited to) proactively preventing unlawful discrimination. Experience: You qualify for this position if you have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-07 level in the Federal Service. For this position, specialized experience is defined as performing fact-finding, analyzing information, conducting complaint processing activities, assisting in the identification of barriers to equal employment opportunity in accordance with federal equal employment opportunity laws and regulations.. Your resume must be no more than two (2) pages and should clearly demonstrate how your experience aligns with the responsibilities and specialized experience required for this position. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Or Education: Two full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a master's or equivalent degree related to the position may be substituted to meet the experience requirements. Your application will be evaluated first for the basic qualifications described above. The applications that meet the basic qualifications will be evaluated further against the following criteria: Knowledge of laws, regulations, Executive Orders, court decisions, and issues related to the federal equal employment opportunity program. Knowledge of the organizational structure, management policies, procedures, and practices of federal agencies. Skill in employing the methods and techniques typical of the program; including fact finding,analysis, and resolution of complex problems. Skill in identifying equal employment opportunity problems and developing concrete action plans to solve these problems to advise Federal managers on appropriate courses of action to eliminate barriers to equal employment opportunity.
