Full job description

Title: Quality Engineer

Location: United States-Michigan-Cadillac

Job Number: 18842

SUMMARY:

Designs and installs quality control processes, sampling systems, procedures and statistical techniques. Designs specific testing mechanisms, equipment and devices. May train hourly, exempt, and non-exempt staff in quality applications. Partners closely with Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering and Operations to design quality into production processes, drives root cause analysis and corrective action for internally-generated nonconformances. This is the QE focus area most embedded on the shop floor.

  • Lead root cause analysis and corrective action investigations (8D, 5-Why, fishbone/Ishikawa) for nonconformances originating in internal manufacturing process /products.

  • Develop and maintain Control Plans and Process FMEAs for new and existing production processes.

  • Support New Product Introduction (NPI) by participating in design reviews and developing process control and quality-planning strategies for new work.

  • Partner with Manufacturing Engineering on tooling, fixture, and process-change qualifications.

  • Track and report internal quality metrics by process/work center: first-pass yield, scrap/rework, and cost of poor quality (COPQ).

  • Support internal ISO 9001:2015 audits as the technical subject matter expert for production process controls.

  • Patrols and monitors work areas, examining tools and equipment in order to detect unsafe conditions or violations of procedures or safety rules.

  • Ensures adequate and continuous controls are exercised over all assigned activities affecting environmental health and safety, as well as quality.

  • Continuously reviews the economics of the quality program and makes recommendations.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university; or eight years related experience; or equivalent combination of education, experience & professional accreditation as a quality engineer by an appropriate authority. Experience in lean manufacturing preferred.
