Salad & Sandwich Maker - University of Rochester

Location: Rochester, NY

Pay: $18.00 per hour

Datrose is hiring Salad & Sandwich Makers to support food service operations at the University of Rochester.

This is a great opportunity for someone with food service experience who enjoys hands-on food preparation and takes pride in presentation, freshness, and quality. In this role, you'll prepare sandwiches, salads, fruits, desserts, and other menu items for patients, staff, cafeteria service, and catered events.

What You'll Do

As a Salad & Sandwich Maker, your responsibilities may include:

• Prepare a variety of sandwiches, including chicken salad, tuna salad, egg salad, and sliced meat sandwiches

• Wash, peel, dice, shred, slice, and prepare fruits and vegetables

• Mix ingredients for salads, salad dressings, sandwich fillings, and other cold food items

• Portion, wrap, label, store, rotate, and properly discard food as needed

• Arrange salads, vegetables, fruits, and other foods attractively and add garnishes

• Set up and maintain salad bars and replenish items throughout service

• Prepare specialized food items for patient meals

• Prepare desserts for patient and staff meal service

• Follow recipes and established portion sizes

• Review production needs and prepare food for current and upcoming meal periods

• Slice and portion roasted or baked meats for sandwiches

• Maintain accurate records of leftover food and additional food prepared

• Clean and sanitize utensils, equipment, food preparation areas, and workstations

• Follow established food safety, sanitation, housekeeping, and workplace safety standards

Equipment You May Use

Depending on your assignment, you may work with:

• Food slicers

• Mixers and blenders

• Food choppers

• Vertical cutters

• Steam-jacketed kettles

• Sandwich wrapping equipment

• Knives, peelers, shredders, and other commercial food preparation tools

What We're Looking For

• At least 6 months of commercial food service experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience

• Basic knowledge of food preparation and safe food handling practices

• Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English

• Ability to understand and follow written recipes and verbal instructions

• Strong attention to food quality, presentation, and portioning

• Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced food service environment

• Ability to lift approximately 40-50 pounds

• Dependable attendance and a strong team-oriented work ethic
