Registered Nurse (RN) Supervisor, Mechanical Circulatory Support (MCS) Program, FT, Days

Job Summary Oversees the development, implementation, and maintenance of program aspects of care for patients requiring Mechanical Circulatory Support (MCS), including ECMO, Ventricular Assist Devices (VAD’s), other temporary MCS devices and cardiogenic shock. This leader will have a direct working relationship with the Executive Director, Cardiovascular Services. The success of this role is dependent on a highly matrixed and collaborative relationship between the Executive Director of Cardiovascular Services, MCS Program Medical Directors, Cardiovascular Surgeons, Advanced Heart Failure Cardiologists, Pulmonary Critical Care Medicine, Perfusion Services, VAD team and the Nursing Department.

Prisma Health Heart Hospital Mechanical Circulatory Support Prisma Health Heart Hospital is South Carolina’s first comprehensive, freestanding hospital dedicated solely to the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of cardiovascular disease. Open to all doctors and patients, our continuum of care begins with disease prevention and management and extends to emergency services and procedures, with diagnosis, surgery, and rehabilitation, all performed in beautiful surroundings of our hospital.

The Mechanical Circulatory Support (MCS) Program cares for critically ill patients suffering from acute illnesses such as heart failure, cardiogenic shock, and acute respiratory failure. This program manages patients on devices such as Impella, intra-aortic balloon pump, left ventricular assist device (LVAD), and extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO). Patients on support are cared for in the Cardiovascular and Cardio-Pulmonary ICU’s.

Essential Functions

• Provides clinical consultation and education related to the management and care of the (MCS) devices for staff, physicians, perfusionists and other disciplines who may have contact or care responsibilities for this population and facilitates the access and utilization of community resources and organizations to assist in patient’s recovery.
• Coordinates and oversees the education plan for MCS patients to include acute care staff, and other multidisciplinary team members. Assists with program strategic planning.
• Coordinates and manages the patient care of this high-risk patient population throughout the continuum to optimize the patient's clinical, functional, and psycho-social status working with the multi-disciplinary patient care team.
• Coordinates and oversees quality improvement and performance improvement initiatives within the programs that enhance quality, efficiency, timeliness, and appropriateness.
• In collaboration with the medical directors, APP's and Program Physicians leads the Morbidity and Mortality Conferences to evaluate difficult cases and cases with poor outcomes to identify areas for improvement.
• Plays an integral role in preparing and maintaining Joint Commission Accreditation to include but not limited to surveys, policy revision, leading multidisciplinary team meetings and database maintenance.
• Oversees the ELSO database, compiles data, and analyzes data for significant trends or occurrences.
• Plans, designs, implements, and maintains program dashboards in support of operating performance, annual objectives, and accreditation standards for all MCS programs (LVAD, ECMO, Temporary VAD and SHock program).
• Direct supervision of ECMO Specialists.
• Manages project implementations, installation, acceptance testing, system education and maintenance.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Supervisory/Management Responsibilities

• This is a supervisor job which may have direct supervision of team members which may include hire/termination authority, disciplinary authority, and performance management responsibilities. May have budget input or responsibilities. Job is not considered a member of management staff.

Minimum Requirements

• Education - Bachelor's degree in Nursing
• Experience - Two (2) years of experience with mechanical circulatory assist patients

In Lieu Of

• In lieu of the BSN requirement above, a nursing diploma or an Associate's Degree in Nursing may be considered if the applicant signs a Memorandum of Understanding agreeing to enroll in an accredited BSN or MSN program within one year and obtain a BSN or MSN degree within four (4) years.

Required Certifications, Registrations, Licenses

• Holds a current RN compact/multistate license recognized by the NCSBN Compact State or is licensed to practice as an RN in the state the team member is working.
