Job Overview

DCSD Transportation Para - Transportation Dept.

$16.85/hr, 6 hrs/day, 185 day contract, 11am-5:30pm

BASIC FUNCTION: To enable safe and efficient transportation for student/staff riders through efficient office operations, policies, and procedures. To facilitate the flow of information among the public, school and departmental sectors, thereby minimizing communication errors. To enhance the efficient orderly and business like operations of the Transportation Department on a daily basis.

GENERAL CHARACTERISITCS:

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. High school diploma

  2. Personality and communication skills adaptable to public relations

  3. Knowledge of computer and windows software

  4. Ability to set-up and maintain paper(less) filing systems

  5. Record and accounting skills

  6. Type speed and accuracy

  7. Ability to make decisions and do the necessary follow-up

  8. Ability to react effectively in crisis and "can't make this stuff up" scenarios

Desirable Qualifications:

  1. Secretarial experience and transportation dispatch

  2. School district (transportation) experience preferred

  3. Knowledge of DCSD roads, streets, and boundaries

  4. Knowledge of DCSD and Transportation Department operations, policies, and procedures

POSITION RESPONSIBILITES:

  1. Able to meet all requirements of the Departments of Education and Transportation.

  2. Required participation in Employee Drug and Alcohol Testing Program (DCSD Policy #7112)

  3. Provide for the safe transportation of students/staff free of bullying and harassment.

  4. Ability to meet the needs of students with/without disabilities (supervision and discipline).

  5. Supervise and dispatch effectively and efficiently personnel and vehicles assigned to the Buildings & Grounds, Transportation Departments, and schools.

  6. Responsible for notifying and maintaining records of state certification for school bus Drivers (CDL-B, DOT physicals, and authorizations).

  7. Responsible for Accident Reports, background checks, Incident Reports, Medicaid forms, Pre-Trip Inspection cards (PTI), Stop-Arm Violation forms, and Workers' Compensation forms.

  8. Responsible for notifying and collecting payride fees from families and maintaining database.

  9. In vehicular emergency situations acts as a liaison between city/county 911 Dispatch, emergency personnel, Transportation Department staff members, and Superintendent's office.

  10. Answer department telephone and screen and/or route calls to appropriate personnel.

  11. Act as a liaison with families and school personnel for complaints and special requests.

  12. Apply knowledge of software applications: Frontline (AESOP); Onscreen (GPS); Infinite Campus (student management); TimeClockPlus (payroll); Traversa (routing/planning), iVisions, InTouch etc.

  13. Assume responsibility for assigned reports, correspondences, telephone, and radio communications.

  14. Assist in the development and maintenance of record systems for all bus routes, employees, student rosters, parts inventory, tool inventory, personnel files, and drug & alcohol testing files.

  15. Assist with transportation budgeting, accounting, state and federal reports (Annual Reports, Non-Public reimbursements, Special Education reimbursements, etc.).

  16. Acquire and maintain a current knowledge of all DCSD roads, streets, and school boundaries.

  17. Assist in the re-routing of vehicles in emergency situations and/or when weather and roadway conditions warrant re-routing.

  18. Perform such additional duties as may be requested by the Transportation Manager.

  19. Demonstrate a commitment to multicultural, gender fair policies and practices.

Dubuque Community School District

About the Company

The Dubuque Community School District reorganized in the early 1960's with the surrounding rural area and now serves a population of over 70,000. Presently, we have a student enrollment of approximately 10,120 students. A total staff of 2,522 employees (including 959 certified teachers, counselors and nurses) is presently employed by the Dubuque Community School District. The geographical area the Dubuque District serves is over 245 square miles and the District provides school bus transportation approximately 5,000 students each day.

Eighteen school buildings are utilized to house our educational program: two high schools, one alternative learning center, three middle schools, and twelve K-5 elementary schools. Other facilities are provided for transportation, maintenance, cafeteria, and administration.

Dubuque Public Schools provide a basic curriculum designed to meet the educational needs of children. Special programs include Title I, Learning Resource Services, Special Education, Talented and Gifted, and At-Risk.
