Summary

About the Position: This position is located in the Education Directorate, Partnership and Resources Division, DoWEA Headquarters, in Alexandria, Virginia, with the Department of War Education Activity (DoWEA). This position is not covered by a bargaining unit. The Department of Defense Education Activity (DoDEA) is transitioning to the Department of War Education Activity (DoWEA).

Duties

  • Assess the overall impact of student achievement in a K-12 school system.
  • Bridge best practices from individual project proposals to strengthen shared resources and a Community of Practice network supporting K–12.
  • Provide liaison support for coordination, negotiation, advice, and problem resolution between project directors and the DoWEA program office.
  • Present recommendations and solutions on complex issues while using tact and diplomacy to obtain information or secure commitments.
  • Provide information, data, and support to facilitate K–12 content-specific programming, project planning and development/maintenance of partnerships.
  • Establish internal procedures for deadlines, progress reports, and or directives.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). Basic Requirement for a Lead Education Assessment Specialist: A. Degree: Bachelor's degree (or higher degree) that included or was supplemented by major study in education or in a subject-matter field appropriate to the position, such as: Education Policy, Education Research and Assessment, Education Applied Research, School Counseling, Educational Organizational Leadership, Educational Leadership, K-12 Curriculum and Instruction, Elementary Education, or Secondary Education.OR B. Combination of Education and Experience: Courses equivalent to a major in education, or in a subject-matter field appropriate to the position, such as: Education Policy, Education Research and Assessment, Education Applied Research, School Counseling, Educational Organizational Leadership, Educational Leadership, K-12 Curriculum and Instruction, Elementary Education, or Secondary Education plus appropriate experience or additional course work that provided knowledge comparable to that normally acquired through the successful completion of the four-year course of study described in A above. In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below: Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-13 grade level in the Federal service which includes: above K-12 school level experience (i.e. K-12 district, central office, state level, etc.) utilizing monitoring tools (i.e. data assessment, evaluation techniques) for K-12 education programs; collaborating with K-12 internal and external stakeholders to accomplish project goals; and reviewing K-12 educational policies or procedures. Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent GS-13.
