POSITION SUMMARY
The Quantis Design Engineer turns new play ideas into real, buildable playground products. This role designs and reviews new structures using 3D modeling software, then proves them out through engineering and building. The work moves from rough concepts to finalized detailed drawings and parts lists the manufacturing floor uses to accurately produce the designs. Every design has to look right, hold up to years of climbing, and run smoothly through our fabrication, weld and paint processes.

DUTIES AND RESPONSABILITIES
-
Engineer Quantis projects from concept through to shop drawings, applying design-for-manufacturability so each part is producible on LSI's floor.

Develop detailed design drawings and specifications for mechanical parts and assemblies using CAD software.

Complete project layouts, assemblies, and shop drawings; assign part numbers and create bills of material and installation sheets so manufacturing can run on time.

Make sure designs meet all safety and product requirements - entanglements, sharp edges, fall heights, accessibility, and zoning.

Use engineering knowledge of manufacturing processes and materials to finish designs; perform basic structural analysis when a part calls for it.

Select and specify materials for a project using design criteria information

Work with suppliers and manufacturing engineering so designs meet cost and manufacturability goals.

Support planning and builds of Quantis assemblies; and troubleshoot technical issues as they come up.

Facilitate product reviews and work across departments to resolve design questions.

QUALIFICATIONS

Responsible for designing Quantis projects from concept through to shop drawings.
-
Develop detailed design drawings and specifications for mechanical parts and assemblies using computer-assisted drafting (CAD) equipment.
-
Complete project layouts, assemblies and shop drawings, assign part numbers; create bills of material, and installation sheets for Quantis products so manufacturing can be completed in a timely manner.
-
Support planning and builds of Quantis and/or prototype assemblies.
-
Responsible for assuring designs meet all safety and regulatory requirements.
-
Must have passed the CPSI exam or extensive knowledge of American Society of Testing and Materials and Consumer Products Safety Commission standards (can obtain after hire).
-
Create/ complete layouts, shop drawings, assign part numbers; create bills of material, and installation sheets for Quantis products so manufacturing can be completed in a timely manner.
-
Interfaces with suppliers, engineering, purchasing, and manufacturing engineering to ensure designs meet objectives for quality, performance, schedule, costs and manufacturability (DFMA).
-
Ability to solve practical problems and be resourceful when working to find the best solution.
-
Uses design criteria and pre-sale information to select and develop specifications of materials needed for a project.
-
Utilizes engineering knowledge and practices, plus manufacturing processes and materials, to complete designs and drawings; Perform engineering related tasks, including basic FEA or structural analysis.

Collaborates with Manufacturing teams to resolve issues and develop the best possible outcomes.
-
Maintains timely project task completion; recognizes problems and barriers and solves them and asks for help as needed.

Operates with minimal supervision or direction

Liason with Concept Design team about design for intent and expectation, engineering, purchasing, and manufacturing engineering to assure designs meet objectives for quality, performance, schedule, and manufacturability.

Ability to work with mathematical concepts and free body diagrams.

Responsible for assuring designs meet all safety and regulatory requirements; Solid understanding and implementation/use of safety requirements (entanglements, sharp edges, fall heights, accessibility, zoning, etc.

Troubleshoots technical issues with products and the systems used in the department

Able to clearly communicate to various departments.

5+ years of experience; Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related field required
The starting target salary range is $84,000 - $104,000, depending upon qualifications and experience. The posted pay range reflects the expected compensation for a fully qualified candidate. Starting pay may be above or below this range based on job-related factors such as skills, experience, qualifications, and training needs.
In addition to base salary, the compensation package also includes eligibility for a profit-sharing opportunity. Additionally, for eligible full-time employees, we offer a competitive benefits package including medical, dental, vision, life, and disability benefits; vacation and paid holidays; 401(k) retirement plan and employee stock ownership plan.
Employment is contingent upon the satisfactory completion of a background screening, conducted in accordance with applicable federal, state, and local laws.
