Overview

Element has an opportunity for a Materials Testing Engineer . In this role, you will work with engineers and technicians to perform tasks related to non-metallic and metallic materials testing including sample preparation, test setup, testing, and reporting. This opportunity will provide you with valuable on the job experience and exposure to the materials testing field.

Our laboratory in St. Paul operates a full materials testing laboratory with mechanical testing, metallurgical testing, advanced materials testing, Nadcap certified nondestructive testing (NDT), certified weld inspection, failure analysis and chemistry services. We are among the most trusted providers of construction materials testing services in the US.

Salary: $65,000- $75,000/yr DOE

Responsibilities

  • Perform a variety of physical property testing including, but not limited to; tensile, compression, flexural, hardness, thermal conductivity, flammability, water absorption, vapor transmission, color, gloss, adhesion, etc.

  • Interpret test data and subsequently review and/or write technical reports for customers

  • Prepare and evaluate samples for testing

  • Perform equipment verification and preventative maintenance

  • Participate in proficiency testing in qualified disciplines

  • Engage in personal training, cross training of colleagues, and ongoing learning of testing techniques

  • Execute tasks within our project management and accounting systems

  • Perform all duties as required within an ISO 17025 quality system

  • Abide by all safety and housekeeping rules and regulations

  • Other related duties as assigned

Skills / Qualifications

  • Bachelor's (B.S.) degree in Materials Science or a related field

  • 2-4 years related work experience preferred
