Description of Duties
This position in the Department of Environmental Services (DES), supports the operation and maintenance of the DES sewers and all associated facilities. Duties include monitoring, operating and analyzing data, and monitoring and dispatching sewer maintenance and construction crew activities. The employee reports directly to, and works under the general supervision of the Systems Operator - Wastewater or other higher-level staff member. Does related work as required.
HELP PROGRAM : Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement Program. This program streamlines the appointment process to allow Monroe County to hire diverse, qualified permanent employees quickly and without examinations.
Minimum Qualifications
Graduation from high school or possession of an equivalency diploma, plus EITHER:
(A) Graduation with an Associate’s degree or sixty (60) college semester credit hours; OR,
(B) Two (2) years paid full-time or its part-time equivalent experience in dispatching, clerical work, or responsible public contact work*; OR,
(C) One (1) year paid full-time or its part-time equivalent experience monitoring, operating, or maintaining sewer collection and/or treatment systems; OR,
(D) An equivalent combination of education and experience as defined by the limits of (A), (B), and (C) above.
*Responsible public contact work is defined as substantial face-to-face, or telephone communication with adults (age 12+) involving customer service, persuasion, teaching, negotiation, explaining, counseling, and similar activities. The nature of the content is such that it requires judgment on the part of the individual in dealing with or responding to another person.
