Job Description
Insight Global is seeking a highly skilled and customer-focused Display Engineer to join the customer support team at one of our clients in Spring, Texas. This role is pivotal in managing complex escalations, supporting software and hardware diagnostics, and collaborating across various teams to deliver high-quality display solutions. The ideal candidate will be a technical expert with strong communication skills and a proactive approach to problem-solving in both pre-sale and post-sale environments.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead complex display investigations: End-to-end troubleshooting of black screens, signal loss, delayed detection, wake/resume failures, resolution or scaling issues, refresh-rate limits, multi-monitor instability, and dock-to-display behavior.
-Reproduce enterprise environments: Build test configurations replicating the reported endpoint, monitor, dock, cable/adapter path, OS, firmware, driver, and peripherals for field-accurate results.
-
Apply disciplined root-cause isolation: Controlled A/B and known-good-versus-known-bad testing with structured matrices, isolating one variable at a time to confirm root cause.
-
Troubleshoot the complete display path: DisplayPort, HDMI, USB-C DP Alt Mode, Thunderbolt/USB4, link training, EDID, MST/SST, DSC, link bandwidth, HDCP, and power delivery.
-
Validate demanding topologies: Single- and multi-monitor configurations, daisy chains, docking paths, and high-resolution/high-refresh setups that stress bandwidth or topology management.
-
Isolate integrated peripheral paths: Independently validate display, USB, webcam, microphone, audio, Ethernet, and power-delivery functions of monitors that double as docking hubs.
-
Perform regression validation: Compare behavior before/after firmware, driver, BIOS, and OS changes, confirming via repeatable testing whether an update introduces, resolves, or exposes an issue.
-
Develop repeatable validation plans: Test cases for boot, restart, sleep/wake, reconnect, and topology changes, tracking reproduction rate and expected-versus-actual results.
-
Collect engineering-quality evidence: Document hardware topology, firmware/driver/OS versions, reproduction steps, logs, and timing data in packages other teams can act on directly.
-
Partner with product and R&D engineering: Escalate isolated issues with a clear technical question, evidence, and hypothesis; validate candidate fixes with firmware, graphics, docking, and platform teams.
-
Support deployment readiness: Validate fixes, firmware/driver releases, and configuration changes before rollout, flagging residual risk with clear pass/fail findings.
-
Communicate findings clearly: Concise updates stating what's confirmed, ruled out, still under investigation, and recommended next steps.
-
Advance the engineering methodology: Document reusable test procedures and evidence templates, and identify automation opportunities.
Skills and Requirements
Hands-on display engineering experience (typically 5+ years of experience) — beyond basic monitor replacement or generic reboot steps.
Strong understanding of display protocols (e.g., DisplayPort, HDMI, USB c, Thunderbolt), embedded systems, display compatibility, firmware update mechanisms, and understanding of modern workplace setup (ex. PC to dock to display)
Evidence-driven problem solving — reproduction and controlled testing over assumption.
Strong technical curiosity — with unfamiliar monitors, docks, platforms, firmware, and topologies.
Systems-level thinking — across video, USB, audio, networking, power delivery, firmware, drivers, and OS interactions.
Composure with ambiguity — intermittent or configuration-dependent issues.
Clear, professional communication — documenting findings, risk, and next steps.
Strong ownership — from problem definition through fix verification and closure. Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, or Computer Engineering, or related field.
Experience with enterprise deployment tools (e.g., Intune, SCCM)
