We are seeking an experienced R&D Senior Manager to lead the Stockpile Engineering & Nuclear Deterrence Product Realization Group (2210). In this pivotal role, you will provide visionary leadership and management across critical Nuclear Deterrence areas, focusing on production realization and sustainment. This group is responsible for leading product realization efforts for the Mk21 Fuze, W76, W88 Alt 370, and Integrated Surety Architecture, along with associated development/sustainment activities such as D5LE2, Building 809 operations, and System Integration leadership across weapon systems. This includes managing key interfaces with Pantex and KCNSC.

Key among the programs anticipated for this group is the leadership of the new HDBT Phase 2 program. Our mission centers on delivering excellence¿ensuring the on-time, safe, and secure delivery of all services and products that support stockpile modernization and sustainment programs. The successful candidate will lead efforts to drive modernization and sustainment activities and successfully deliver all mission-critical objectives.

On any given day, you may be called on to:

  • Lead managers and staff across multiple technical domains to ensure the effective and efficient delivery of Sandia products and services to diverse programs, while navigating complex challenges and constraints.

  • Lead direct customer engagement and collaborate closely with peers across the Labs, the broader Nuclear Security Enterprise (NSE), including design and production agencies, NNSA field and production offices, the Department of War (DoW), and other key stakeholders such as the US Air Force Nuclear Weapons Center, US Navy, and Sandia Field Office.

  • Maintain strong integration with various Sandia organizations to anticipate, prioritize, and resolve current and future product realization and sustainment challenges.

  • Demonstrate deep understanding of the integrated Group 2210 portfolio and its mission value, develop staff and leadership expertise to meet evolving mission requirements, and continuously enhance organizational health and performance.

  • Serve as a role model by leading with integrity, building trust-based relationships, challenging the status quo, communicating effectively, and fostering a culture of continuous improvement.

  • Champion the development and adoption of innovative methods, techniques, and evaluation criteria for projects, programs, and personnel to optimize work scope, schedules, budgets, and organizational objectives.

  • Guide the group¿s technical efforts and strategic direction in alignment with nuclear deterrence mission priorities and the strategic plans of the Center, Division, and Laboratory.

Due to the nature of the work, the selected applicant must work onsite.

Salary Range:

$193,000 - $328,200

*Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate's experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential.

Qualifications We Require:

  • Bachelor's and advanced degree (MS or PhD) in engineering or a relevant STEM field.

  • Ten or more years of relevant experience, including five or more years of management experience.

  • Active DOE Q clearance or equivalent with the ability to obtain and maintain Sigma 15 access.

Qualifications We Desire:

  • Minimum of 5 years demonstrated leadership and/or managerial experience.

  • Demonstrated experience in a Systems organization and experience leading product realization activities that required customer engagement.

  • Leadership experience in nuclear weapon design, production, and/or stockpile stewardship for systems or components with a strong understanding of NSE product delivery and sustainment.

  • Experience working with Physics DAs, KCNSC, Pantex, NNSA, SFO, USAF and US Navy customers and partners.

  • Experience executing programs using defined quality processes including the Nuclear Weapon Realize Product Subsystem (RPSS) processes.

  • Proven commitment to operational excellence in safety, security, quality, and on-time delivery with engineering excellence.

  • Demonstrated ability to apply and adopt innovative, enterprise-wide approaches to solve complex technical challenges and improve execution.

  • Self-starter with strategic thinking skills, capable of setting vision and leading organizational change.

  • Proven ability to build trust-based relationships with external/internal partners and customers.

  • High social acumen and emotional intelligence; adept at anticipating and resolving ambiguous or contentious issues involving differing technical perspectives.

  • Skilled at influencing technical decisions and project delivery without direct authority and problem-solving skills in ambiguous environments with limited direction.

  • Proficient in creating accountability, managing conflict, and facilitating win-win solutions.

  • Demonstrated passion for shaping and preparing for the future through continuous learning, professional development, and knowledge management.

About Our Team:

We lead the Stockpile Management mission with contributions across all phases of the weapon lifecycle. We accomplish our mission by developing and supporting a diverse workforce comprised of technical, operational, and programmatic disciplines that lead and deliver with excellence.

Likewise, the Stockpile Engineering & Nuclear Deterrence Product Realization Group (2210) leads key Nuclear Deterrence product realization and sustainment activities with Systems Engineering and Systems Integration excellence. Systems Integration activities are foundational to the Group¿s role within the ND Portfolio. The group includes a diverse set of programs that spans core sustainment, modernization, and accelerated product realization. Our people are our key asset, as are the strong internal and external relationships we cultivate.

Posting Duration:

This posting will be open for application submissions for a minimum of three (3) calendar days, including the 'posting date'. Sandia reserves the right to extend the posting date at any time.

Security Clearance:

Position requires a Department of Energy (DOE) Q security clearance to start, or equivalent active security clearance with another U.S. government agency (e.g., DOD). Sandia is required by DOE directive to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications. Applicants for employment need to be able to maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship. If you hold more than one citizenship (i.e., of the U.S. and another country), your ability to obtain a security clearance may be impacted.

Applicants offered employment with Sandia are subject to a federal background investigation to meet the requirements for access to classified information or matter if the duties of the position require a DOE security clearance. Substance abuse or illegal drug use, falsification of information, criminal activity, serious misconduct or other indicators of untrustworthiness can cause a clearance to be denied or terminated by DOE, resulting in the inability to perform the duties assigned and subsequent termination of employment.

EEO:

All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, age, disability, or veteran status and any other protected class under state or federal law.

NNSA Requirements for MedPEDs:

If you have a Medical Portable Electronic Device (MedPED), such as a pacemaker, defibrillator, drug-releasing pump, hearing aids, or diagnostic equipment and other equipment for measuring, monitoring, and recording body functions such as heartbeat and brain waves, if employed by Sandia National Laboratories you may be required to comply with NNSA security requirements for MedPEDs.

If you have a MedPED and you are selected for an on-site interview at Sandia National Laboratories, there may be additional steps necessary to ensure compliance with NNSA security requirements prior to the interview date.
