Job Duties

We are seeking a motivated and hands-on Materials Engineer I to join our team. This role is ideal for an early-career engineer with a strong foundation in materials science and a passion for laboratory-based research, testing, and process improvement. The successful candidate will support materials development activities, evaluate operational and process changes, and collect and analyze data to drive engineering decisions.

This position offers an excellent opportunity to work on challenging engineering projects while collaborating with cross-functional teams to develop and optimize materials and manufacturing processes for a variety of applications.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide hands-on laboratory support, including material preparation, testing, characterization, and analysis.

  • Conduct assessments of operational and process changes to determine impacts on material performance and manufacturing outcomes.

  • Collect, analyze, and report experimental and production data, preparing technical summaries and recommendations.

  • Research, design, develop, and optimize metallic, nonmetallic, and composite materials for engineering applications.

  • Apply principles of chemistry, physics, and materials science to solve engineering challenges.

  • Support material qualification, processing specifications, fabrication methods, and quality requirements.

  • Assist with material failure investigations, root cause analyses, and life prediction studies.

  • Contribute to project execution from concept through implementation while meeting quality, safety, and schedule expectations.

  • Collaborate with engineering, manufacturing, quality, and other stakeholders to achieve project objectives.

  • Recommend improvements to systems, processes, and testing methodologies.

Minimum Education Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Materials Science, Materials Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related technical discipline.

Minimum Experience Required

Required Qualifications

  • 0 to 3 years of relevant industry, internship, co-op, or academic research experience.

  • Fundamental understanding of materials science principles, including structure-property relationships and material behavior.

  • Experience working in a laboratory environment through academic, internship, research, or industry experience.

  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and data interpretation skills.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Positive, adaptable attitude with a willingness to learn new technologies and take on new challenges.

  • Hands-on laboratory experience (academic or industrial).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience or coursework in one or more of the following:

o Electrochemistry

  • Familiarity with materials characterization and testing techniques.

  • Experience with technical reporting and data analysis tools.
