Finance Internship, Summer 2027
Career Opportunity:
Smurfit Westrock, a global leader in sustainable packaging solutions with more than $20 billion in annual revenue, is seeking ambitious and analytical students to join our Summer 2027 Finance Internship Program. This immersive internship offers hands-on experience within our Corporate Finance organization, providing exposure to strategic decision-making and key financial initiatives that support one of the world's largest packaging companies. Interns will work directly with finance professionals and business leaders, gaining valuable experience in financial analysis, reporting, forecasting, investment evaluation, and operational finance.
Throughout the program, interns will participate in professional development training, networking events, site visits, social activities, and a company-wide intern summit featuring senior leadership engagement and community service projects. High-performing interns may be considered for our highly regarded Finance Leadership Program, a two-year rotational development program designed to accelerate future finance leaders within Smurfit Westrock.
Your Impact as a Finance Intern:

Partner with finance leaders to prepare quarterly Board presentations and supporting materials, including opportunities to present insights to leadership.

Support the annual budgeting and forecasting process by tracking performance and providing analytical insights to guide operational and capital spending decisions.

Collaborate with pricing and commercial finance teams to evaluate the financial impact of pricing strategies and revenue initiatives.

Build financial models and conduct return-on-investment analyses for strategic business projects.

Analyze financial performance across mills, plants, customers, products, and regions to identify trends and explain variances against budget and forecast.

Participate in month-end close activities, financial reporting processes, inventory reviews, and income statements, and balance sheet analysis.

Develop discounted cash flow (DCF) models to support capital expenditure and strategic investment decisions.

Improve reporting processes and enhance financial databases to drive consistency, efficiency, and data accuracy across the organization.

Perform ad hoc analyses and create meaningful reporting and recommendations for finance leadership and senior management.

Create monthly and quarterly EBITDA bridges to explain business performance drivers and support continuous improvement initiatives.

Lead independent projects and contribute to key business priorities throughout the internship.
What We're Looking For:
We're seeking students who are passionate about finance, eager to learn, and excited to make an impact.
Preferred Qualifications:

Pursuing a bachelor's degree in finance, Accounting, Economics, Mathematics, Business, or related field.

Minimum GPA of 3.5 preferred.

Strong interest in corporate finance and future leadership opportunities.

Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint.

Excellent analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills.

Demonstrated leadership potential and ability to build strong professional relationships.

Willingness to work in and travel to manufacturing and production environments as needed.
