Summary If you want to do interesting and challenging work and to make a contribution to national defense, the Secretary of War Communications office is a great place for you. Responsibilities Serves as the primary clearinghouse for all incoming and outgoing office communications. This includes reviewing, routing, and tracking action items, correspondence, and inquiries to ensure accuracy, compliance with timely completion. Manages the daily schedule and calendar of the staff. This involves resolving scheduling conflicts, coordinating complex meetings, organizing agendas, and ensuring the Civilian Director has all necessary briefings, background materials, and files. Develops and implements internal administrative procedures and policies for the office. The Office Manager evaluates existing workflows and drafts standard operating procedures to streamline operations and ensure office efficiency. Acts as the principal point of contact between the Civilian Director, senior leadership ( SES, Flag Officers), and external agencies. Screens, evaluates, and resolves complex inquiries, determining which issues require Deputy Director's attention. Independently plans and executes special studies and projects assigned by leadership. This involves using qualitative and quantitative techniques to analyze administrative data, identify bottlenecks, and present recommendations to improve org. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications One year of specialized experience equivalent in level of difficulty and responsibility to that of the next lower grade GS-11 within the federal service, which demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position, is required. Specialized experience is defined as: Experience in managing calendars for senior executives, reviewing, routing, and tracking action items within departments, OR experience acting as the principal point of contact between senior leadership. Volunteer Experience: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Education Education is not substitutable for specialized experience for this grade level GS-12. Additional Information: Pay for first time hires to the Federal Government will typically be set at step 1 salary range for their respective grade level. Accepting this position, you may be required to serve a 1-year probationary period during which we will evaluate your fitness and whether your continued employment advances the public interest. This position is not covered by a bargaining unit. This position is Exempt from the Fair Labor Standards Act. This is a Drug Testing position. A one year supervisory or managerial probationary period may be required. Incumbent may be subject to varying work shifts and work shift rotation for mission support requirement of 7 days a week, 24 hours a day, if required by upper management.
