Full job description

Serving the needs of Garfield Heights and the Southeast communities of Cuyahoga County, Marymount Hospital is an acute care, faith-based hospital. As a Pharmacy Technician Apprentice, a caregiver in this role will work within a hospital pharmacy supported by a team of approximately 36 caregivers while participating in Cleveland Clinic's School of Pharmacy Technology, one of the few accredited hospital-based pharmacy technician programs in the United States. Through a 16-week accelerated apprenticeship, the caregiver will receive hands-on training in both inpatient and outpatient pharmacy settings while developing skills in medication preparation, distribution, inventory management, customer service and recordkeeping. Upon completion, graduates will earn a diploma in Pharmacy Technology and be prepared to pursue the national pharmacy technician certification exam.

A caregiver in this position will work 16 weeks, Monday through Friday from 7:00am to 3:30pm with the potential need to work evenings. This role pays a flat rate of $17/hour.

A caregiver who excels in this role will:

  • Prepare medications (selection, labeling, repackaging, non-sterile compounding and sterile compounding).

  • Deliver medications to appropriate storage locations.

  • Maintain accurate and appropriate inventories of medications and supplies.

  • Maintain a safe and clean work area by complying with procedures, rules and regulations.

  • Document regulatory requirements such as temperature logs, scheduled activities, and training in an accurate and timely manner.

  • Attend and actively participate in team huddles and meetings.

  • Use information systems, technology and automation to complete assigned tasks.

  • Maintain good standing in the Cleveland Clinic School of Pharmacy Technology Program per the student handbook.

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

  • High School Diploma or GED.

  • Successful completion of the Cleveland Clinic School of Pharmacy Technology program within 12 months of hire.

  • Upon hire, registration as a Pharmacy Technician Trainee with the Ohio Board of Pharmacy. Registration as a Certified Pharmacy Technician with the Ohio Board of Pharmacy is required within 12 months.

  • Must obtain Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) certification through the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) within 12 months.

  • Basic computer skills

Physical Requirements:

  • Typical physical demands include ability to perform the job while standing, walking, reaching, stretching and sitting for prolonged periods; manual dexterity sufficient to perform computer, dispensing, and compounding.

Personal Protective Equipment:

  • Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.

Pay Range

Minimum hourly: $15.00

Maximum hourly: $150.00
