Job Title: Cable EngineerJob Description
The Cable Engineer serves as a customer-facing solution validation service engineer, supporting cable service provider customers in validating and implementing new platforms and solutions. This role focuses on planning and executing validation engagements, building and testing lab configurations, and clearly documenting and communicating results to customers and internal teams.
Responsibilities

Engage with customers and stakeholders to plan and execute solution validation engagements successfully.

Support service provider customers in the cable segment to accelerate implementation of new platforms and solutions.

Validate new design solutions to ensure they meet customer requirements and performance expectations.

Drive requirements discussions with customers and internal teams to clarify objectives and test needs.

Analyze test requirements and translate them into detailed, actionable test plans.

Build and configure lab environments to mirror customer cable platforms and network designs.

Author comprehensive test plans, execute tests, and document results in a clear and structured manner.

Identify key issues, gaps, and defects during testing and work closely with engineering and delivery teams to resolve them.

Collaborate with Solution Architects from delivery and sales teams to ensure solutions align with customer needs.

Innovate and refine validation processes to gain efficiency and accelerate validation efforts.

Work closely with other engineers to ensure successful project delivery and consistent quality of validation outcomes.

Validate software in the lab environment based on customer requirements and perform quick, targeted testing.

Configure cable platforms and related equipment in the lab, execute tests, and demonstrate validated solutions to customers.

Explain test results and solution behavior to customers, including what happens under different connection and configuration scenarios.

Use network test tools such as Ixia and Spirent to perform performance and functional testing, and ramp up quickly on these tools if needed.

Share documented test results and identified issues with customers and internal teams in a timely and professional manner.
Essential Skills
-
Approximately 10+ years of experience working with multiple system operators (MSOs) or in roles closely related to cable platforms.
-
Strong expertise with DOCSIS (Data Over Cable Service Interface Specification).
-
At least 5+ years of hands-on experience working with DOCSIS-based solutions and environments.
-
Experience working directly with cable service provider customers in a customer-facing engineering or validation role.

Practical experience validating software and solutions in a lab environment based on customer requirements.

Ability to execute detailed test plans, document results thoroughly, and clearly identify and describe issues.
-
Experience configuring and testing cable platforms such as cBR8 or similar cable infrastructure solutions.
-
Solid understanding of cable network design and requirements, including how different configurations impact performance and behavior.
-
Fundamental knowledge of RF (Radio Frequency) principles relevant to cable networks.
-
Working knowledge of IOS-XE and related network operating systems.
-
Experience with network test tools such as Ixia and Spirent, or the ability to quickly learn and ramp up on these tools.

Strong analytical skills for interpreting test requirements, diagnosing issues, and proposing solutions.

Effective communication skills for interacting with customers, explaining test results, and addressing what if scenarios.

Ability to collaborate with engineers, Solution Architects, and delivery teams to ensure successful project outcomes.
Additional Skills & Qualifications

Experience with Remote PHY architectures and technologies is preferred.

Experience with additional network test tools such as Keysight is a plus.

Background in working within service provider or cable lab environments is advantageous.

Demonstrated ability to innovate and improve validation processes and methodologies.

Comfort working in highly collaborative, cross-functional teams that include engineering, delivery, and sales.

Strong documentation skills, including the ability to produce clear test plans, reports, and customer-facing summaries.

Ability to respond to customer questions about different connection and configuration scenarios and explain technical outcomes in an accessible way.
Work Environment
This role is based in an RTP lab environment focused on cable platforms and network validation. You will work with technologies such as DOCSIS, Remote PHY, cBR8 cable platforms, IOS-XE, and network test tools including Ixia, Spirent, and potentially Keysight. The work involves configuring and testing equipment in a lab setting, collaborating closely with other engineers and Solution Architects, and interacting directly with customers to demonstrate validated solutions and discuss test outcomes.

This is a Contract position based out of Durham, NC.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $50.00 - $60.00/hr.
Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
