Job Summary
The Software Design Engineer is an early-career role responsible for developing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and supporting software used in transformer and related component design processes. This position builds on foundational software development experience and applies it to engineering automation, design data workflows, ERP integration, and CAD-related tools. The P2 Software Developer works with moderate supervision, contributes to defined development tasks, and collaborates with design engineering, manufacturing, quality, sales, supply chain, and IT teams to support reliable software solutions aligned with business and design engineering needs.
This role will be onsite in Athens, GA. Relocation Assistance is available.
Responsibilities

Develop, update, test, troubleshoot, debug, deploy, and maintain software applications used to support transformer or component design processes.

Assist in translating engineering requirements, customer specifications, design rules, and process needs into functional software requirements.

Support basic calculations, data validation, simulations, reporting, and engineering data analysis within software tools and automation workflows.

Collaborate with design engineering, manufacturing, quality, sales, supply chain, and IT teams to ensure software integrates effectively with engineering and production processes.

Maintain technical documentation, software notes, user instructions, test results, change records, and support materials under guidance from senior team members.

Participate in code reviews, design reviews, software validation, and continuous improvement activities to improve reliability, usability, and maintainability.

Support ERP and engineering system data updates related to design processes, automation workflows, and engineering deliverables.

Contribute to technology organization growth initiatives.
Qualifications
-
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.

1-3 years of software development experience, preferably in engineering, manufacturing, automation, CAD, ERP, or technical business systems.

Working knowledge of programming concepts, database interaction, debugging practices, version control, and basic software lifecycle practices.

Ability to read and interpret drawings, customer specifications, engineering documentation, and basic design requirements.

Effective communication, organization, and teamwork skills with the ability to manage assigned tasks and meet deadlines.

Basic understanding of engineering design processes and willingness to develop transformer or component design knowledge.

Ability to analyze complex legacy codebases and document business logic.
Preferred Qualifications
-
Exposure to CAD systems, such as Autodesk Inventor, Vault, AutoCAD, or similar CAD/PLM technologies, engineering automation tools, design configurators, ERP integrations, or product data workflows.

Demonstrated interest in supporting platform development, engineering data quality, and scalable tools for design decision support.

Good understanding of tools like Query Tool and MySQL used for complex data querying utilizing SQL.

Familiarity in programming languages such as VB .Net, C#, and C++ that includes embedded SQL queries, and creating, testing, and maintaining Dynamic Link Libraries (DLLs).
