Full job description

Description We are looking for an accomplished Regional Controller to lead financial operations and strengthen accounting discipline for a construction-focused business in Vernon, California. This role will guide accurate reporting, support operational decision-making, and help ensure sound financial controls across projects and departments. The ideal candidate brings strong technical accounting knowledge, hands-on leadership experience, and the ability to translate complex financial data into practical business insight.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead the day-to-day performance of the accounting function, overseeing payables, receivables, payroll, general ledger activity, and project-related financial records.

  • Prepare and review financial statements and management reports to ensure accuracy, timeliness, and alignment with established accounting standards and company policies.

  • Partner with operations, project teams, and senior leadership to improve financial procedures, strengthen internal controls, and support informed business decisions.

  • Drive budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning activities, including detailed monitoring of project costs and analysis of budget-to-actual results.

  • Oversee job cost accounting by tracking contract performance, monitoring cost trends, evaluating profitability, and supporting revenue recognition practices.

  • Review cash flow activity and working capital needs to help maintain financial stability and support ongoing business operations.

  • Guide and develop accounting staff through coaching, performance support, and the promotion of consistent best practices across the team.

  • Help maintain compliance with financial regulations, audit expectations, and internal reporting requirements while upholding a high standard of accuracy and integrity. Requirements

  • CPA with 15 yrs of construction industry experience and significant accounting leadership experience within construction, civil infrastructure, heavy industrial, or a closely related project-based environment.

  • Strong knowledge of GAAP, internal controls, financial compliance, and core accounting processes across payroll, accounts payable, and accounts receivable.

  • Demonstrated expertise in project accounting, including job costing, cost tracking, change order monitoring, revenue recognition, and margin analysis.

  • Ability to produce reliable month-end close results and deliver clear financial reporting for executive and operational stakeholders.

  • Background in budgeting, forecasting, cash flow oversight, and variance analysis in a multi-department business setting.

  • CPA credential preferred or equivalent level of advanced accounting expertise.

  • Proven ability to collaborate cross-functionally, lead teams effectively, and implement process improvements with a practical, solutions-oriented approach.
