Position Purpose: Seeking world-class talent to join the world’s leading distributor of automotive and industrial replacement parts and value-added services operating 5,500+ locations and servicing more than 20,000 locations in the U.S and Canada. Specifically, this role will function as the head of engineering to architect the next generation Shop Management System and Commerce platforms for GPC. Working with a highly talented team, you'll play a leadership role to build and run one of the world’s largest automotive and industrial replacement parts operations.

This is an engineering leadership role responsible for defining and executing the technology strategy for GPC’s Shop Management System. This role also provides the opportunity to solve complex business and technology problems using AI, data science, and advanced analytics to improve shop operations and customer outcomes.

This individual must be a technologist & engineer at heart and be comfortable in understanding the technology direction and being hands on with the execution of the strategy. She/he must exhibit a deep understanding of modern technology stack and agile delivery models, demonstrated focus on customer experience, and must have a proven track record of modernizing legacy supply chain technologies at scale.

Close collaboration and alignment with a wide variety of both internal stakeholders and external vendors will be required. As such, exceptional abilities in building and maintaining strong working relationships and organizational savvy will be required. High level communication and presentation skills are required. Ability to attract, retain, and develop engineering talent will be critical.

Responsibilities:

  • Own the engineering strategy, technical roadmap, delivery, and ongoing support for the Shop Management System and its supporting services.

  • Partner with Product and business leaders to translate shop-owner and technician needs into clear, prioritized, and measurable platform capabilities.

  • Lead the design and delivery of end-to-end shop workflows, including customer and vehicle records, appointments, estimates, inspections, repair orders, parts and labor, invoicing, payments, and reporting.

  • Drive integration with NAPA commerce, catalog, pricing, availability, ordering, payments, identity, communications, and third-party shop ecosystem partners.

  • Provide technical direction for modern, secure, cloud-based, API-first, event-driven, and highly available solutions.

  • Ensure engineering quality through architecture reviews, automated testing, observability, performance engineering, release controls, and production readiness practices.

  • Be accountable for platform reliability, incident response, root-cause analysis, problem management, service levels, and continuous operational improvement.

  • Simplify legacy architecture, reduce technical debt and total cost of ownership, and establish a pragmatic modernization path without disrupting shop operations.

  • Use customer feedback, product analytics, operational metrics, and experimentation to improve adoption, usability, performance, and business outcomes.

  • Recruit, coach, and develop a high-performing team of engineers; set clear expectations and foster ownership, inclusion, learning, and continuous improvement.

  • Plan capacity, manage dependencies and delivery risks, and communicate status, tradeoffs, and decisions clearly to technical and business stakeholders.

  • Manage vendor and partner delivery where applicable, including technical alignment, integration quality, security, performance, and contractual outcomes.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Location:

  • GPC has two work locations to choose from, Duluth or Atlanta office.

  • We offer a Flexible Work Policy that permits eligible employees to work a hybrid remote schedule.

Desired Qualifications & Experiences:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or equivalent experience.

  • 8+ years of experience in software engineering delivery, including 2+ years in an engineering leadership role.

  • Proven success leading cross-functional delivery of enterprise-grade, customer-facing SaaS, commerce, retail, or business-management platforms.

  • Strong understanding of automotive aftermarket, repair-shop operations, point-of-sale, service management, or comparable workflow-intensive domains is preferred.

  • Experience designing and operating distributed systems using modern application architectures, APIs, microservices, events, and cloud services.

  • Experience with one or more major cloud platforms such as Google Cloud Platform, AWS, or Azure.

  • Solid understanding of transactional data, SQL and NoSQL databases, data modeling, data quality, security, privacy, and lifecycle management.

  • Experience integrating with commerce, catalog, inventory, pricing, payments, identity, messaging, accounting, CRM, or third-party partner platforms.

  • Demonstrated ability to improve reliability, performance, observability, quality automation, deployment practices, and production support.

  • Ability to communicate complex technical topics, options, risks, and recommendations to audiences at all levels.

  • Strong planning and prioritization skills, with the ability to manage multiple initiatives and make clear tradeoffs across scope, time, quality, and risk.

  • Demonstrated ability to attract, retain, coach, and grow engineering talent while creating an accountable and collaborative team culture.
