Full job description

MEET THE TEAM The Silicon One team creates innovative hardware platforms central to the AI era, powering Cisco’s core Switching, Routing, and Wireless products for organizations globally. Our innovations in silicon, optics, and hardware platforms are shaping the technology industry. We're a global team of creative experts, bringing our unique backgrounds and bold ideas to push boundaries and help each other grow. Because full product development—from design to qualification to production—is within our team, we’re able to think differently, experiment more, and work quickly. Join us to power the future of the digital world.

YOUR IMPACT Build, lead, and mentor a team of mechanical design engineers responsible for Engineering Validation Board (EVB) mechanical development. Define team priorities, project plans, and resource allocation in collaboration with Hardware Program Managers and cross-functional engineering teams. Lead the mechanical design of complex EVBs, including board-level mechanics, fixtures, thermal solutions, structural components, and lab infrastructure. Drive Design for Manufacturing (DFM), Design for Assembly (DFA), and Design for Test (DFT) to ensure efficient prototype builds and engineering validation. Develop innovative mechanical concepts to support aggressive product development schedules and multiple concurrent programs. Partner closely with Electrical Engineering, PCB Layout, Signal Integrity (SI), Power Integrity (PI), Thermal Engineering, Packaging, and Contract Manufacturers throughout the product lifecycle. Support prototype assembly, debugging, validation, and bring-up activities, ensuring rapid issue resolution. Lead root cause investigations, failure analysis, and corrective actions for mechanical and assembly-related issues. Perform design reviews, risk assessments, and implement mitigation plans to improve product quality, reliability, and execution. Define and continuously improve mechanical design methodologies, engineering processes, and best practices for EVB development. Work closely with external suppliers and contract manufacturers to ensure manufacturability, quality, cost optimization, and schedule execution. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS B.Sc (https://B.Sc). in Mechanical Engineering (M.Sc. is an advantage). 8+ years of experience in mechanical design for electronic products. 4+ years of experience leading engineering teams in an R&D environment. Proven experience designing electro-mechanical systems for complex electronic hardware. Strong hands-on experience with 3D CAD tools (Creo preferred). Experience designing for sheet metal, CNC machining, injection molding, and other manufacturing technologies. Strong understanding of PCB/PCBA mechanical integration and mechanical tolerance analysis. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS Experience developing Engineering Validation Boards (EVBs) or complex networking/server hardware. Knowledge of high-speed electronic systems and mechanical integration challenges. Experience with thermal management solutions for high-power electronic assemblies. Familiarity with laboratory fixtures, test hardware, and validation infrastructure.
